Viktor Gyokeres Downplays Transfer Links To Manchester United Amid Rumours

Viktor Gyokeres has addressed the speculation linking him to Manchester United, dismissing it as mere rumours. The Sporting CP forward has been in the spotlight following Ruben Amorim's move to United. Despite being linked with clubs like Bayern Munich and Arsenal, Gyokeres remains focused on his current team. His impressive performance in Portugal has seen him score 34 goals this year, far surpassing Porto's Galeno, who has netted 16 times.

Gyokeres' goal tally is remarkable, considering his expected goals (xG) figure stands at 28.18. His shot conversion rate is an impressive 27.64% from 123 attempts in 2024. Amorim, who joined Manchester United with a contract until June 2027, initially brought Gyokeres to Sporting from Coventry City in July 2023. Despite the transfer rumours, Amorim has indicated he won't be signing any Sporting players in the upcoming window.

The Swedish striker expressed his thoughts on a potential Premier League move to Fotbollskanalen: "It's fun, but not something I attach any importance to because it's talk. These are rumours, nothing concrete." He emphasised his desire to complete the season with Sporting and enjoys his time there without feeling pressured about future changes.

Gyokeres acknowledged Amorim's significant impact on his career, stating that the coach provided him with opportunities that helped him grow significantly. Although saddened by Amorim's departure from Sporting, Gyokeres understands the decision and looks forward to working under new coach Joao Pereira. The forward appreciates the support he received and is optimistic about continuing his development.

The 26-year-old striker had an outstanding previous season, scoring a league-high of 29 goals. This term, he has already netted 23 goals across all competitions in just 18 appearances, with 16 of those goals coming from Primeira Liga matches. His consistent performance underscores his value to Sporting CP and highlights why top clubs are interested in him.
