Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal's recent acquisition, has expressed his desire to avoid comparisons with Thierry Henry after choosing the number 14 shirt. This number is famously linked to Henry, who scored 228 goals in 377 matches for Arsenal. Gyokeres joined Arsenal as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster the squad for a Premier League title challenge.
During his tenure at Sporting CP, Gyokeres netted an impressive 68 goals in the Primeira Liga over two years. His overall tally stood at 97 goals in 102 appearances, contributing significantly to consecutive league titles. In contrast, Arsenal's forwards collectively scored 34 goals last season, with Kai Havertz leading with nine.

The decision to wear the number 14 was straightforward for Gyokeres due to limited options. "Of course, I know about the history," he acknowledged. "To be honest, there weren't so many numbers available." Despite this iconic association, Gyokeres is focused on carving out his own path at Arsenal.
Henry's legacy at Arsenal includes winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups. He also claimed the Premier League Golden Boot four times during his eight-year stint. While aware of this illustrious past, Gyokeres is determined to showcase his unique skills without drawing direct parallels.
"I don't know [if there will be comparisons]," Gyokeres admitted regarding potential parallels with Henry's achievements. "It's not really my intention to be compared with what he's achieved in his career. Especially here." He emphasised his goal of demonstrating his own abilities rather than replicating Henry's success.
Gyokeres recognises Henry as an exceptional player but insists on highlighting their differences. "I just want to try to do my own thing," he stated confidently. This approach underscores his commitment to making a distinct impact at Arsenal while respecting the club's storied history.
