Sporting CP President Varandas Confirms No Offers For Viktor Gyokeres Amid Transfer Speculation

Frederico Varandas of Sporting CP asserts that no offers have been made for striker Viktor Gyokeres. He clarifies there is no agreement allowing a £59m exit.

Sporting CP's president, Frederico Varandas, confirmed that no offers have been made for Viktor Gyokeres. Despite interest from clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, no bids have been received. Gyokeres has impressed since joining from Coventry City in 2023, scoring 97 goals in 102 matches. His contract includes a release clause of €100 million (£85 million).

Reports suggest Gyokeres is unhappy with Sporting for not honouring a supposed agreement allowing him to leave for €59 million. However, Varandas clarified that the club never promised such terms. "I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60 million plus €10 million because I never promised that," he stated.

Varandas: No Offers for Gyokeres from Clubs

Varandas explained that Gyokeres' agent sought assurances regarding the player's release clause during a meeting earlier this season. The agent wanted to ensure Sporting would not demand the full termination clause amount. Varandas assured them that the club would not insist on the €100 million release clause.

In discussions with the agent, Varandas was asked to agree on an exit price for Gyokeres. However, he declined to commit to a specific figure due to uncertainties about future market conditions. "It’s not worth us setting a value because I don’t know what will happen in a year’s time," he said.

The agent's primary concern was whether Sporting would enforce the full release clause if Gyokeres wanted to leave. Varandas reassured them by stating, "What I can guarantee is that I will not demand €100 million." He noted that players rarely leave Portugal at 27 years old for such high amounts.

Hugo Viana, who has since moved to Manchester City, was also involved in these discussions. The agent sought clarity on whether Gyokeres could depart for less than his release clause. Varandas reiterated that no gentleman's agreement existed regarding a reduced fee.

The Sporting president emphasised the club's stance: they would not demand the full release clause but did not promise any specific lower amount either. This approach leaves room for negotiation based on future circumstances and market dynamics.

Despite ongoing speculation about Gyokeres' future, Sporting remains firm in their position. They are open to negotiations but have yet to receive any formal offers from interested clubs.
