Haaland's Hat-Trick Powers Manchester City To Pre-Season Victory Over Chelsea

Erling Haaland scored three times in Manchester City's final US pre-season game, leading to a 4-2 win against Chelsea in Ohio. The match highlighted City's readiness for the upcoming Community Shield against Manchester United.

Erling Haaland's hat-trick led Manchester City to a 4-2 victory over Chelsea in Ohio, concluding their pre-season tour of the United States. Haaland netted twice within the first five minutes, and Oscar Bobb added City's third goal in the second half. The Norwegian striker completed his treble shortly after, despite late goals from Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke for Chelsea.

The match began with a high tempo as Levi Colwill fouled Haaland in the penalty area. Although Haaland had to retake his spot kick, he successfully converted on his second attempt. Just a minute later, Moises Caicedo's misplaced pass was intercepted by Haaland, who confidently scored with his right foot past Robert Sanchez.

Haaland Secures City Win

City extended their lead ten minutes into the second half when James McAtee found Bobb, who finished at the near post. Moments later, McAtee assisted Haaland again, allowing him to complete his hat-trick with a clinical finish.

Sterling managed to pull one back for Chelsea just before the hour mark by volleying beyond Stefan Ortega. In the 89th minute, Madueke further reduced the deficit with a low strike. Despite these efforts, City maintained control and secured their win.

Haaland’s Impact on Expected Goals (xG)

Despite underperforming their expected goals (xG) by 2.25 at Ohio Stadium, Manchester City demonstrated the value of having a prolific striker like Haaland. He contributed 1.4 xG to City's total of 1.75 and led all players with four shots, three shots on target, and seven touches in the opposition box.

This performance sets a positive tone for Manchester City's upcoming Community Shield fixture against Manchester United next week. Pep Guardiola's side will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the new season.

The match highlighted both teams' strengths and weaknesses ahead of competitive fixtures. While City's attacking prowess was evident through Haaland's performance, Chelsea showed resilience with their late goals.
