Guardiola Hails 'Unbelievable' Haaland As Comparable To Messi, Ronaldo

Erling Haaland's performance is drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Pep Guardiola. Guardiola believes the 24-year-old's statistics are comparable to those of Messi and Ronaldo. "He has the numbers for Messi and Ronaldo, who controlled the last decade, 15 years, absolutely everything. In terms of the numbers, it is that level," Guardiola stated.

Despite this praise, data suggests Haaland hasn't yet matched Messi or Ronaldo's peak seasons. Haaland averages a goal every 88 minutes since joining City two years ago. However, Messi scored every 67 minutes during his best season (2012-13) with Barcelona. Similarly, Ronaldo netted every 76 minutes in the 2014-15 season at Real Madrid.

Norway did not qualify for Euro 2024, which Guardiola thinks has benefited Haaland due to more rest this summer. As City began their quest for a record fifth consecutive Premier League title, Guardiola noted, "I had a feeling that he feels better than last season at this stage."

"After last season, he felt a bit [so-so] or felt he was tired. This season, I think for the Euros unfortunately Norway were not there, there was more rest and he feels good," added Guardiola.
