Barcelona's head coach, Hansi Flick, is downplaying expectations of winning the Champions League this season. His primary focus is on securing a victory against Benfica on Tuesday. Flick praised Liverpool, who lead the Champions League group with 18 points, three more than Barcelona. The top eight teams automatically advance to the round of 16, while the next 16 compete in playoffs for qualification.
Flick acknowledged the difficulty of winning the Champions League but remains optimistic about his team's chances. "The future will tell whether we are among the favourites or not," he stated during a press conference. He admires Liverpool's strength and considers them one of his favourite teams globally. Despite Barcelona's strong performance, Flick recognises other formidable teams in the competition.

Barcelona is currently competing on three fronts: the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey. Flick appreciates Benfica's style of play and highlighted Angel Di Maria as one of his favourite players. "Let's see how we do tomorrow," he added.
Despite their success in other competitions, Barcelona has struggled in LaLiga recently. They have not won in four league matches since their 5-1 victory over Mallorca in December. A recent 1-1 draw against Getafe left them third with 39 points from 20 games, trailing Real Madrid by seven points and Atletico Madrid by five.
Flick remains satisfied with his team's performances despite these results. He fondly recalls winning the Champions League at Estadio da Luz with Bayern Munich in 2020 and looks forward to playing there again. "I have great memories of this stadium," Flick said.
Flick emphasised that securing a win against Benfica is crucial for Barcelona's campaign. "Our goal is to win against Benfica," he stated. Achieving this would be significant for the team and help them avoid playoffs by finishing in the top eight. With many games remaining this season, Flick believes it's essential to secure these points now.
The coach also reflected on his first season in LaLiga, acknowledging his lack of experience with Spanish opposition tactics. Despite this challenge, he remains focused on improving results and maintaining strong performances across all competitions.
