BCCI may reconsider Hardik Pandya as the captain of India for the T20 World Cup as they are trying to convince Rohit Sharma for the role in the shorter format with the teams set to be announced for the South Africa tour next month, reported news agency PTI. The report cast shadows over Hardik Pandya's future as the captain.
BCCI top brass are impressed with Rohit Sharma's performance as the captain during the ICC World Cup 2023, where India lost the final to Australia, and are willing to give him the captaincy for the T20 World Cup if he agrees to lead the T20 team in South Africa. Hardik Pandya won't be available for the tour as he continues to recover from injury.

"Yes, there remains a question what happens when Hardik comes back but in BCCI, they feel that if Rohit agrees to lead in T20Is, he will lead in the T20 World Cup. In case Rohit doesn't agree then Surya continues as captain for T20Is in South Africa," a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI.
The Indian team for the tour is all set to be announced by national selector Ajit Agarkar and team in New Delhi on Thursday with the aim to start the process for the T20 World Cup. With regular T20 skipper Hardik Pandya out for another month post an ankle ligament tear during the ODI World Cup, the choice is between entrusting Suryakumar Yadav with the responsibility or trusting Rohit's leadership skills which earned worldwide praise in the last seven weeks.
It must be mentioned that Rohit Sharma had earlier said that he doesn't want to play the T20 format but the manner in which he led the side in the ODI World Cup has convinced the BCCI that he should continue in white-ball till the T20 World Cup in the Americas in June-July.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the other two formats as India will play three ODIs and T20Is in
