Harry Maguire 'In A Good Place' Ahead Of Crucial Season For Manchester United

Manchester United's Harry Maguire feels physically and mentally prepared for the new season. After making 22 Premier League appearances last season despite injury challenges, he's optimistic about contributing significantly to the team's success.

Harry Maguire is optimistic about his readiness to contribute significantly to Manchester United's upcoming season. He partnered with Lisandro Martinez in United's Premier League opener, securing a 1-0 win against Fulham, with Joshua Zirkzee scoring the decisive goal on his debut. Despite speculation about his departure last year, Maguire chose to stay and fight for his place, ultimately making 22 Premier League appearances due to injuries among fellow defenders Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof.Maguire's previous season saw him start 18 league games, a significant increase from just eight starts during Erik ten Hag's first season in charge in 2022-23. Although a calf injury sidelined him from England's Euro 2024 campaign where they finished as runners-up to Spain, he now feels both physically and mentally prepared for his sixth season with United. "I feel good, I feel fit. Physically and mentally, I'm in a good place and I'm looking forward to a big season," Maguire shared with the club's media channels.Maguire emphasised the importance of squad depth for the demanding season ahead. "There are so many games this season. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of changes game to game in the starting eleven. When your turn is upon you, you need to take your chance," he stated. He expressed confidence in his fitness and readiness for the challenges ahead.United's eighth-place finish last season was their lowest in the Premier League era, conceding 58 league goals—the most since the 1978-79 campaign when they conceded 63. However, they ended the season on a high note by defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final, which likely secured Ten Hag's position as manager and earned him a new contract.Maguire is determined to help United achieve better results this season. "Obviously, we want to be in the Champions League spots. We missed out for this season as we weren't good enough in the league," he acknowledged. He stressed that while setting specific targets might not be necessary, the club demands trophies and significant improvements from last season’s performance.Reflecting on their goals for the new season, Maguire added: "We want to win another trophy, of course, and in the Premier League we know there are large improvements that we need to make from what we did last season." His focus remains on elevating United’s league performance while aiming for more silverware.
