Harvey Elliott has made it clear that he plans to stay with Liverpool during the January transfer window. This announcement came after he scored the decisive goal in their Champions League match against Lille. Mohamed Salah initially put Liverpool ahead, but Jonathan David equalised shortly after Lille's Aissa Mandi was sent off. Elliott, who came on for Curtis Jones in the second half, scored his first Champions League goal at Anfield with a deflected shot.
Elliott's celebration included a hand gesture and a throat-cutting motion, which he explained was meant to show his commitment to Liverpool. Despite rumours linking him to Brighton and Borussia Dortmund, Elliott stated, "It is pretty clear to be honest - I am not leaving. This is my team and my club." He emphasised his loyalty to Liverpool and expressed satisfaction with the team's current performance this season.

Since returning from injury, Elliott has been making an impact as a substitute under manager Arne Slot. His goal against Lille marked the fourth consecutive game where a Liverpool substitute scored, a feat last achieved in 2007 under Rafael Benitez. In the match against Lille, Elliott completed 19 of 22 passes and made more interceptions than any other player on his team.
The 21-year-old has faced challenges this season due to a broken foot sustained in September, causing him to miss 14 games. Despite these setbacks, Liverpool has excelled in both the Premier League and Champions League standings during his absence. Elliott acknowledged the difficulty of breaking into the starting lineup given the team's success.
Elliott revealed that he has discussed his playing time with manager Arne Slot but understands the situation given Liverpool's strong form. "I've had conversations with the gaffer but at the same time I need to understand the situation," Elliott said. He recognises that demanding a starting position would be unrealistic given Liverpool's current success.
Elliott is determined to seize any opportunities that come his way and prove his readiness when called upon. He expressed a desire to enjoy playing football again after being sidelined for three months due to injury. "I just want to enjoy my football and when a chance comes I need to show the gaffer that if I am needed I am ready," he added.
