Hemp Urges Manchester City To Maintain Humility Following Derby Win Over Manchester United

Following a convincing derby victory, Lauren Hemp emphasises the importance of humility for Manchester City in the Women's Super League. The team leads Chelsea by four points after their win.

Lauren Hemp has called for Manchester City to maintain their humility following their victory over Manchester United in the Women's Super League derby. This win has placed City four points ahead of Chelsea at the top of the table. However, Chelsea could narrow this gap to just one point if they win against Liverpool on Sunday.

Hemp's return to the starting lineup was marked by a stunning goal during first-half stoppage time. She scored from a distance after Rebecca Knaak and Khadija Shaw had already found the net. Hemp, who recently recovered from an ankle injury, also created three scoring opportunities for her teammates.

Hemp Calls for Humility After Derby Win

This season marks only the second time City have won eight out of their first nine WSL matches, replicating their 2017-18 performance. Despite this strong start, Hemp remains grounded. "It's so exciting, but it's important we stay humble," she told BBC Sport. "We know where we're at and we're in a good place as a team."

Hemp expressed her joy at being back on the field with her teammates, saying, "I absolutely loved it. It's so nice to be back with all the girls." She highlighted the team's mentality and was pleased with both their clean sheet and securing three points.

Andree Jeglertz experienced his first Manchester derby as City's manager with great success. The former Denmark coach praised his team's defensive efforts during the match. He shared with BBC Sport, "It was fantastic. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it because it was so intense in the game."

Jeglertz noted that City's defensive performance had improved significantly since their last game. "For us to get a clean sheet and not concede that many opportunities to them is a big boost for the future," he added.

Upcoming Matches

City's next challenge is against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Saturday. Following that, they will face Leicester City in their next WSL fixture on December 7.

The team's current form and strategic play have set them up well for these upcoming matches, as they aim to maintain their position at the top of the league table.
