Henrikh Mkhitaryan surprised to see Nemanja Matic at Manchester United

London, August 17: Manchester United attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that he was surprised to see Chelsea sell their former player Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer.

The Serbian defensive midfielder recently opted to join his former boss Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford in a reported £40m deal this Summer, just three years after he returned to Chelsea for a second spell under Mourinho that time.

Matic made his debut in the Premier league in the Reds shirt in their opening match of the season as the Manchester giants thrashed West Ham United 4-0.

Debutant Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the match to announce his arrival at the club, however, it was the £40million new signing who made the most of the headline with his superb work rate and coating all the area with his presence in the midfield.

Matic was named Man of the Match at Old Trafford and manager Jose Mourinho even described him as a 'genius'.

And speaking after the match, the Armenian Captain, Mkhitaryan also opined the same, also adding a lot of praise for other two signings as well.

"Actually I am [surprised]," Mkhitaryan said. "But at the same time I am very happy that we have got him.

"It was not only Matic. I want to mention as well the other two new signings, [Victor] Lindelof and Lukaku. They are very good players. They are, I think, Manchester United players.

"Matic does a big job on the pitch. He tries to recover all the balls. He defensively does a big job. Lukaku scored his goals and Lindelof is still going to have time to show himself. So I want to say all the players are good signings and they are going to help us a lot."

United's triumph over West Ham last week was their best start to a Premier League season since beating Fulham 5-1 in 2006 and the Red Devils will surely want to maintain the same aura next week when they will travel to Liberty Stadium to face Welsh side Swansea City.
