Holstein Kiel pulled off a surprising victory on Tuesday, defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 at home. This marked only their third league win of the season. The defeat was Dortmund's second consecutive loss in the Bundesliga, dropping them to eighth place. Holstein Kiel remains second from the bottom but is now just three points away from safety.
The match began poorly for Nuri Sahin's team, as they found themselves trailing 3-0 at halftime. Holstein Kiel dominated the first half, with Shuto Machino opening the scoring in the 27th minute. Phil Harres extended their lead five minutes later, netting his fifth goal in three matches.

Harres also assisted Alexander Bernhardsson, who scored just before halftime, giving Holstein Kiel a commanding lead. Despite Dortmund's attempts to rally in the second half, they couldn't overcome the deficit. Gio Reyna reduced the gap with a goal in the 71st minute, followed by Jamie Gittens' strike seven minutes later.
Dortmund had a chance to equalise when Lewis Holtby received a red card for a reckless challenge during stoppage time. However, it was Fiete Arp who sealed Holstein Kiel's victory with a late goal, making it 4-2.
This victory was historic for Holstein Kiel as it was their first-ever win against Dortmund. Despite having only 25% possession, they managed to outscore their opponents. Dortmund struggled to create meaningful chances despite dominating possession and recorded an xG of just 1.06 compared to Holstein Kiel’s 1.56.
With this result, Dortmund has won only one of their last seven matches across all competitions. The pressure is mounting on Nuri Sahin as his team continues to falter in crucial games.
