Ever since his signing on a free deal in the summer midfielder Christian Eriksen has been a key part of Erik Ten Hag's rebuild at Manchester United.
The Danish midfielder was a wanted man in the summer with his former side Brentford also looking to get him. However, United won the chase and Eriksen so far has flourished impressively.
United's main target was to get Barcelona's Frenkie De Jong in the summer who could be the ball carrier from the middle. Eriksen so far has impressed in that role massively. The 30-year-old has been tasked with the role of picking the ball up from the defence and playing it forward to start attacks. With one goal and seven assists to his name in Premier League, he definitely has lived up to his expectations.
However, ever since his injury in United's Carabao Cup clash against Reading, Ten Hag has struggled to fill in that gap. Fred has been deputized with the same profile as of now but that precision has been missed from his game. The club also have Kobbie Mainoo and Zidane Iqbal waiting in the wings to provide extra cover but forcing them into the first-team role so fast could be challenging.
Therefore, replacing him with players not suited to or ready for the task could hamper the free-flowing system. With that in mind, United are likely to jump into the market next summer, and if that is so, United could have a readymade replacement ready.
