Arsenal have completed the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth £63.5 million (€73.5m), including add-ons.
The Gunners had long earmarked Gyökeres as their priority forward target following a third successive Premier League runner-up finish. While names like Benjamin Šeško and Ollie Watkins were considered, it was the prolific Swede who topped Mikel Arteta's wishlist after the 2024-25 campaign concluded.

The agreement had reportedly been in place since last week, with negotiations dragging over the structure of performance-related bonuses. That hurdle has now been cleared, with Gyökeres putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are set to pay an initial £55m, with £8.5m in add-ons. Gyökeres will wear the iconic number 14 shirt, famously worn by club legend Thierry Henry.
Gyökeres joins Arsenal on the back of a phenomenal two-year stint in Portugal, during which he scored 68 goals in the Primeira Liga - more than any player across Europe's top 10 leagues since his 2023 switch from Coventry City.
His 39-goal haul in the 2024-25 season led all players in Europe's top leagues, finishing eight clear of Kylian Mbappé. Remarkably, 27 of those came from open play, three more than any other player. Even Harry Kane, who struck 62 times for Bayern Munich across the same period, trailed Gyökeres in league goals.
Viktor Gyokeres is set to earn approximately £200,000 per week at Arsenal. This salary places him among the club's top earners but below players like Kai Havertz (£280,000/week), Gabriel Jesus (£265,000/week), Declan Rice (£240,000/week), and Martin Odegaard (£240,000/week). He has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal reportedly worth around £52 million in wages over its duration.
The Swedish is expect to join his new teammates after they return to London for the Emirates Cup, but there is a possibility that he may fly to Hong Kong and play a part in the North London derby in Hong Kong.
