Eddie Howe has called on Newcastle United to focus on their upcoming match against Everton after a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal. Declan Rice's goal shortly after halftime secured the win for Arsenal, leaving the race for Champions League spots undecided. Newcastle remains third with 66 points, tied with Chelsea and Aston Villa, and just ahead of Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle will host Everton at St. James' Park on the final day, knowing a victory would secure a top-five finish and Champions League qualification. Howe acknowledged the pressure his team faced in the second half against Arsenal but emphasized learning from the experience. "We came under pressure at the start of the second half, and you need to ride that storm," Howe stated.

Despite missing top scorer Alexander Isak due to injury, Newcastle had a promising start at Emirates Stadium. They managed five shots on target within the first 17 minutes but failed to maintain that momentum throughout the game. Joe Willock missed a crucial chance late in the match, unable to beat Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya.
Howe praised his team's initial performance, noting their confidence and strength. "It was a really strong first half performance from us," he told BBC Radio 5. However, he admitted that their second-half display fell short, contributing to their defeat.
The absence of Alexander Isak was felt keenly as Newcastle struggled to convert chances into goals. Isak has scored 23 Premier League goals this season, making him a vital player for the team. Howe expressed uncertainty about Isak's availability for the next match due to his groin injury.
"He's got a bit of swelling in a muscle in his groin," Howe explained. "Fingers crossed he can get there." The Swede underwent a scan revealing some swelling, leading to his exclusion from Sunday's game.
David Raya played a crucial role in Arsenal's victory with several key saves. Howe acknowledged Raya's performance: "I have to say, as well, David Raya played well." Raya has kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper this season.
Newcastle ended with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.6 compared to Arsenal's 0.65, suggesting they deserved more from their efforts. Despite creating numerous opportunities, they couldn't find the net against Raya's solid defense.
Looking ahead, Howe remains optimistic about taking positives from this match into their final game against Everton. He believes individual performances were commendable and hopes these can be carried forward into securing Champions League football next season.
