In a clash of the bottom two, Kolkata Giants East Bengal look to revive their ISL season once again as they are in the City of Nizam to face Hyderabad FC at the Gachibowli Stadium.
East Bengal, who gained massive momentum after winning the Super Cup last month, slumped to back-to-back defeats following a Kolkata Derby draw upon the ISL 2023-24 resumption.
Chennaiyin FC last night pushed them to the bottom two of the table by beating Kerala Blasters at home. They lost to NorthEast United FC and Mumbai City FC in quick succession after their 2-2 tie in the Kolkata Derby.
As a result, their chances of making the playoffs, which were promising a few weeks ago, are fading and require an immediate turnaround. After 13 games, the club has two wins, five losses, and is currently ranked tenth in the standings.
Their last victory came on December 4 against NorthEast United FC by a score of 5-0. They have not won in the ISL in their last six games. They might be hoping that their hopes are bolstered by a victory over Hyderabad FC, a squad still looking for its maiden ISL victory.
Although the hosts haven't had much luck this season, their current performance against East Bengal FC is also uninspiring. This is a chance for both of these teams to clear the air and perhaps plant the seeds of a potential resurgence that might help them advance in the ISL.
Hyderabad FC has only scored five goals in 14 games, which is the fewest goals scored by any side in the ISL 2023-24. They have scored in all seven of their league games against East Bengal FC, the only team Hyderabad FC has accomplished this feat against, thus it is not a worry that they will play them.
