Hyderabad FC continue their hunt for maiden win of the season as the bottom-placed ISL side (4 points in 10 games) host Jamshedpur FC at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday (December 21).
Things are no nice for Jamshedpur FC (6 points in 10 games) too as the Owen Coyle-managed side fell to the bottom two last week and may fall to the bottom spot if Hyderabad post their maiden win of the season.
Less than two years ago, these two teams were arguably the best clubs in the nation. Despite this, both teams have had inconsistent results this season, with Hyderabad FC yet to win three points from any of their games thus far, and the Red Miners winning just one in ten games.
For these teams, scoring goals has been a big problem as talented forwards have struggled to reach the back of the net on a regular basis. Hyderabad FC head coach Thangboi Singto has repeatedly appreciated the efforts that his support staff and players continue to churn out in training despite their results so far. However, that perseverance has to result into positive on-field outcomes for their season.
In a similar vein, Scott Cooper, the strategist for Jamshedpur FC, has maintained that his coaching philosophy remains unwavering. He has been grateful for his team's defensive stability, which is seen in the fact that they have conceded 11 goals in their last 10 games. However, their forwards need to deliver equally impressive outputs upfront for all these factors to click cohesively and deliver victories for Jamshedpur FC.
"What's missing is probably some players with a real desire to win this. It's not a question of tactics, because we're in this every game. It comes down to the nitty-gritty of how much you want to win and whether you are willing to do it right," Cooper said.
"And so, part of football teams and successful ones I've been on, it's not always been (having) the most blessed players, but they have a real desire and a drive to win. And I'm searching for those players in our football club. We've got some, but we don't have enough. And with the January transfer window looming, some players should be very concerned."
