'I am Xabi Alonso, I need Money', How Thailand Criminals committing Fraud using Liverpool

If you are a Liverpool fan, you are supposed to be a bit down given Jurgen Klopp's announcement. But if you are living in Thailand, beware of that.

Since the announcement of Klopp's departure, there has been speculation on the next Liverpool manager. And one of them is former Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso.

Xabi Alonso

Xabi, who is currently the coach of German club Bayer Leverkusen, has been tipped to be the next Reds boss. Under Alonso's tutelage, Leverkusen are flying high at the top of the Bundesliga table.

But the Thailand police has warned people to not fall prey to scammers who are pretending to be Xabi Alonso. Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has told supporters to watch out for a viral message which purports to show Alonso confirming via his Instagram account that he will be taking over from Klopp as the next Liverpool coach, but asking donations of 300 Baht (Rs. 700) for his flight to Liverpool as he is short of money.

"I am Xabi Alonso, I will be in charge of Liverpool next season, but I am short of money for my flights to Liverpool," the message reads in Thai.

"During this time, Liverpool fans must be reeling from the sudden announcement of Klopp's resignation," wrote the CIB on Facebook, urging Liverpool fans in Thailand to "calm down" and warning: "Xabi is not yet the manager, but there is already a scammer."

The police have also said that the scammers are taking advantage of the victims via a 'suspicious link' which has the ability to usurp personal data, get access to bank details and withdraw money.

"The CIB would like to warn the people that if anyone chats or sends suspicious messages, requesting money or attaching a link, do not transfer money and do not click on the link. Hurry, block and cut off the chat immediately," the authorities warned.

Although Thai criminals using Xabi Alonso for their fraud, the Spaniard has confirmed that he is strictly committed to Bayer Leverkusen and not thinking of leaving the German club beyond this season.
