Ibrahima Konate Confirms He Has Received New Contract Offer From Liverpool Ahead Of Champions League Clash

Ibrahima Konate has confirmed that he has been offered a new contract by Liverpool. While negotiations are ongoing, he remains focused on his performance in the Premier League and Champions League.

Ibrahima Konate has revealed that Liverpool has proposed a new contract to him, as the team prepares for their Champions League match against Lille. Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, with his current contract ending in 2026. However, he indicated that an agreement on an extension is not imminent.

Konate has been instrumental for Liverpool this season, contributing significantly to their top positions in both the Premier League and Champions League. In the Premier League, only Virgil van Dijk has surpassed Konate's 42 aerial duels won, with the duo helping Liverpool maintain a league-low of 20 goals conceded.

Konate Confirms New Liverpool Contract Offer

Liverpool is currently negotiating contracts with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts expire at the end of the season. Konate confirmed that he is also in discussions about his future with the club but mentioned that these talks are far from being concluded.

When asked about his contract situation, Konate stated: "Who talked about that a few months ago? The club didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything. It’s one person who said that. I was not ready, I didn’t know when he said that. But after that, I spoke with the club. I think I am really focused on what is happening now. We will see what will happen."

Konate recently returned to action after missing December due to a knee injury sustained against Real Madrid. He played in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Manchester United but admitted he was still experiencing pain and had rushed his recovery.

The French defender expressed his commitment to Liverpool's success under Arne Slot's leadership: "I tried to come back 100%, but I'm not because I rushed my comeback with my knee," Konate said. "I've done this for my team. I can die for this team; it is fine."

Despite playing through pain and using painkillers, Konate remains optimistic about his recovery: "My knee will come back 100% soon; it's fine. I still have pain." He explained how Joe Gomez's injury prompted him to return sooner than planned: "My plan was to train that week but when I saw Joe [Gomez] with his injury I was like: 'Okay, I have to come back quicker.'"

Konate praised Liverpool's medical staff for their support during his recovery process: "For sure, the first game I felt my knee a little bit, but it gets better day after day. The physios and the medical staff have done a great job for me."

As negotiations continue and Konate works towards full fitness, his contributions remain vital for Liverpool's ambitions this season.
