The versatile player is believed to have "met targets" in his current deal that had led to the club being prepared to offer improved terms, according to the Daily Star.

Kolkata, March 13: After spectacular performances, Jesse Lingard is set to be rewarded with a new and improved contract at his boyhood club Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has had a fine season, scoring 13 goals in the process, and he will be rewarded for his efforts as per reports in England.

Lingard is believed to already be on around £100,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

The versatile player is believed to have "met targets" in his current deal that had led to the club being prepared to offer improved terms, according to the Daily Star.

Lingard only signed his current contract 11 months ago, but the club are looking to move quickly to tie him down at Old Trafford.

He is set to get the call on Thursday from Gareth Southgate to represent England for the international friendlies against Holland and Italy.

The fleet-footed attacking midfielder came off the bench for Manchester United in the 89th minute in the 2-1 victory against fierce rivals Liverpool yesterday.

One player who could be joining Lingard in penning a contract at United is Juventus star Alex Sandro who has been consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford for a long time now.

Reports claim that Jose Mourinho has been monitoring the 27-year-old who starred in the Italian club's impressive Champions League win at Wembley against Tottenham.

And out-of-favour Matteo Darmian could be used as a makeweight for the deal.

Darmian is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford three years after his move to England from Torino. Sandro joined Juventus for £22million from Porto in 2015 and was close to joining Chelsea last summer.

The Manchester United boss is after a top quality left-back with the future of Luke Shaw uncertain.

The Italian international returning to Turin could help smooth the path for Sandro to finally move to the Premier League.
