India Set To Play First-Ever Competitive Match Against Panama Before High-Octane Brazil Encounter

Ahead of the much-awaited encounter against Brazil on October 3, Team India is set to lock horns with Panama in a friendly encounter on September 26. It will be the first time that the Blue Tigers will be playing against the 44th-ranked team.

The Central American side, which took part in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup 2026, will be a tough test for India physically.

Long Window Of International Matches

Team India is currently competing in a long international window consisting of four matches against teams who took part in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

First in the list is Panama, followed by a meeting with Brazil on October 3, and followed by two games against New Zealand on November 12 and 15.

AIFF deputy general M Satyanarayan said that Panama will be a good test for Khalid Jamil and his side and give the players the right exposure.

"Playing against Panama will be a tough battle ahead of the Brazil game. Panama are a top-50 team in the world, and it will be a good test for Khalid Jamil's boys. We are looking forward to our players getting the right exposure, and we normally don't get to play such World Cup teams. So it's a good FIFA window for us, where we are playing such tough teams," said AIFF deputy general M Satyanarayan.

India's friendly against Panama was scheduled after the AIFF withdrew the Blue Tigers from the FIFA ASEAN Cup due to a scheduling conflict with their high-profile encounter against Brazil.

The tournament is set to kick off on September 24, with the final scheduled for October 3, the same day India are slated to take on Brazil at Kolkata's iconic Salt Lake Stadium. A potential run to the final would therefore have created an unavoidable clash between the two fixtures.

India are also in discussions with Cabo Verde over a possible friendly on October 6, just three days after the Brazil game.
