India vs Japan Women's Football Match Highlights, AFC Olympics Qualifiers: IND 0-7 JPN Half Time!

The referee blows the final whistle after India's corner was cleared away to safety by the Japanese defense. It's a humiliating result for India as the national team loses 7-0 on the day in Tashkent. That's surely a jolt to any aspiration India had to make it to the next round. Next up is Vietnam on October 29! We bid good bye for now, do join us for the ISL match in the evening
90+5' Finally an attack by India! An indirect freekick from 40-odd yards is delivered into the box for Grace Dangmei, who volleys it but was blocked by a diving Japanese defender! The loose ball fell to Anju Tamang, whose effort was blocked at goal line and goes out for a corner!
90+1' The match official adds five minutes of injury time. It should add to India's agony as they won't like to concede another late goal
87' Japanese defenders are sensing their opportunities to score now as Shiori Miyake's header from a corner was inches off the crossbar!
86' The match continues to progress at a gingerly pace as Japan are feeling no pressure from the Indian players, who themselves carrying the brunt of galloping seven goals
82' Another goal and a well-coordinated move again! Nakashima turns provider again as she squares it to Hikaru Naomoto from the right flank
73' Kiko Seiki makes it 6-0! Japan schools India with their short-pass build-up there as following a well-coordinated move from the left flank Nakashima plays one-two with a teammate to move deep inside the box and squares the ball to Kiko on the far post to just tap it in! India 0-6 Japan
70' Japan are playing in a more relaxed manner now but quality is such of the team that they are still delivering those threatening passes inside the box to keep the Indian defense on their toe. IND 0-5 JPN
67' A rare attack by India as Soumya throws in deep cross from the right flank but the effort couldn't find any Indian forward inside the box because no Indian forwards made it to the box. The attack, or an attempt for it, comes after Japan dropped their intensity going upIND 0-5 JPN
65' It continues to be one-way traffic as Japan continue to move towards the box and look like scoring with every move they make!
60' Priyangka and Grace Dangmei join the attack in place of Indumathi and another player as the Indian coach shakes up the Indian forward line. However, the problem lies in the defense
57' Four goals in last 12 minutes! Tanaka sets up this one as she squares to teammate Miyabi Moriya at the edge of the box and she hits it first time on target to make it 5-0!
54' Two goals in two minutes! Tanaka gets her name on the scoresheet as she takes an excellent header on the target past Shreya after an early cross from right flank
It's India 0-3 Japan! Tanaka is fed with the through ball inside the box and she sets up Kiko Seiki, whose shot was blocked but fell nicely to Honoka Hayashi, who guided the ball into the net beating Shreya!
50' Another brilliant attack from the left wing this time by Japan and the cross falls to Tanaka in front of the goal. She chests it down and volleys with her left foot but sails over the bar!
47' Japan scores from their first attack move from the break as Nakashima scores the second goal of her day following a perfectly weighted cross to the far post from the right flank by Miyabi Moriya! India 0-2 Japan
46' The second half starts and Japan take charge of the ball again. No changes made
A 0-1 score in favour of Japan is not the true reflection of the match as the Asian Giants could have scored more but Indian defense settled down better as the match progressed while the five-at-the-back formation allowed India to kill gaps inside the box for Japan to exploit. But not a single attempt in Japanese box by India as both Indian forwards were isolated figures
The referee blows the whistle soon after as the first half ends India 0-1 Japan. Only positive to take for India is they have conceded just once!
45+5' The match is halted again as defender Sweety Devi has hurt her head during an aerial duel! Indian medical staff is back on the field to treat the defender
45+4' opening goalscorer Nakashima laterally dribbles the ball while running parallel to the box as she looks for a space to fire but Indian defense hold their position well for Nakashima to shoot from outside the box, bit weakly, for Hooda to collect
45+3' Goalkeeper Shreya Hooda is really struggling as she is down on the ground again and is receiving treatment. Reserve goalkeeper Elangbam Panthoi is warming up. Hooda, however, is back on her feet
45+1' Four minutes of injury time added and the Indian defense won't be too happy with that as they had almost no time to catch a breathe in this half. IND 0-1 JPN
43' Dennerby is using 5-3-2 formation to deal with the waves of attack with the three midfielders playing narrow while the backline is stretched with five at the back but that hasn't stopped Japan from sending in crosses but that extra defender has helped them clear the crosses inside the box. The two forwards are isolated figure and have nothing to show for yet
39' The backline of India is constantly under pressure as Japan continue to send in one cross after another but the Indian defense now looks in better shape to stop the Japanese forwards to capitalise. As far as the Indian attack is concerned, no move lasts more than two passes as the Japanese quickly press to win the ball back!
37' All of the Indian players are mostly playing in their own half in fact close to the box but Japan are still easily finding space on the flanks and using it to pepper crosses into the box! The recent cross from the right leads to a cleareance out for a corner by Dalima Chhiber
33' Japan win another corner following another attack from the left wing and the resulting corner was dangerously delivered into the box. Following confusion it fell in front of the goal for Saki with the goalkeeper away. But Ritu Rani had Hooda covered as she clears the ball, which ricocheted out for a goal kick after hitting Saki. India are lucky to be losing 0-1 at the moment
29' India concede another freekick. This time on the right wing as skipper Saki is taken down by Dalima Chhiber before she could get into a position to deliver a cross! No card was shown while the resulting indirect freekick was cleared away to safety. Japan, however, quickly put the pressure back on India by taking back the possession and build another attacking move
26' Naomoto takes the resulting freekick, her effort neatly clears the wall but sails over the top corner at the near post for a goal kick!
25' Japan attack from the left flank again as Noamoto is taken down by Ashalata at the edge of the box after Noamoto gets into a threatening position to shoot! Japan will surely fancy their chance of scoring from a dangerous position!
The Indian women's football team will start their campaign in round 2 of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers as they take on former World Champions Japan in their opening match at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Tashkent.
India are the massive underdogs in their group, which also consists of higher-ranked opponents Vietnam and Uzbekistan. While international game time has often been a concern for the Indian women's football team, they come into the Qualifiers playing Asian Games in China last month.
The Thomas Dennerby-led side finished last in the Asian Games after losing both their matches to higher-ranked Chinese Taipei and Thailand, casting a shadow on India's chances of advancing to the next round. However, Dernnerby is confident that rankings are just on paper and they will go into the game with the self-belief that they can upset any team on their day.
However, Japan are a different beast all together as they just won the Asian Games gold medallist after the disappointment of elimination in the first knockout rounds to Sweden. They, however, famously trounced World Champions Spain 4-0 in the group stages and also demolished Argentina 8-0.
India certainly will be punching above their weight if they wish to trouble the Japanese even for a bit in the game. The national side, led by skipper Ashalata Devi, has a good mix of youth and experience with the likes of Bala Devi, Astam Oraon, Hemam Silky Devi among others. The skipper also stressed before the game that they are not reading too much into Japan's stature and will focus on themselves.
India vs Japan women's football match will start at 3:30 PM IST.
