India vs Lebanon Highlights, Hero Intercontinental Cup 2023: IND 0-0 LBN at Full Time
The Indian men's team played a goalless draw against Lebanon in the final group match of the Hero Intercontinental Cup on Thursday (June 15) at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
In an evenly-matched contest for most parts, both sides had opportunities to win the game, but neither could find the edge on another humid evening in the Odisha capital. The crowd turned out in big numbers at the venue to support the Blue Tigers but were left disappointed as the home team failed to put the ball in the goalpost.

Lebanon were already confirmed to be India's opponents in Sunday's final before the game kicked off as Vanuatu beat Mongolia 1-0 earlier in the day. Coach Igor Stimac had the luxury to experiment with his starting 11 as India played a dead rubber against World No. 99.

That's all for the night! Do return on Sunday (June 18) for the big final as MyKhel will bring you all the updates from the venue itself. This is your host Aditya K Halder wishing you good night!
That's all from our Live coverage of the final group game of Hero Intercontinental Cup 2023. The match ended 0-0 but there was plenty of positives for both the teams as they will return to the venue again for the final match on June 18!
After an entertaining first half, India didn't bring their best game in the second half as not starting with a proper number nine limited India's threat at the front. Sandesh Jhingan meanwhile is awarded the hero of the match.
No, it's not! as the ball was hit too far from the centre of the box. The referee soon after blows the final whistle as both the sides share spoils ahead of the final on June 18.

Late corner for India as Anirudh Thapa prepares to take it. Will this be the moment?
Free header off target by Chhetri! That should have been chance of the match as the captain fails to keep his header on target after Anirudh Thapa delivers an indirect freekick! The match official adds four minutes of injury time as well!
Lebanon coach Aleksandar Ilic makes two attacking substitutions as he hope to push for a late winner.
A promising move by India! Rahim Ali plays a nice one-two with Anirudh Thapa to find himself clear in front of the goal. The forward, however, ignored his poaching instinct and tried to square it to his right for a cross. The effort, however, was too weak for Chhangte to reach as Lebanon defender clear the ball to safety!
And their plea has been heard almost immediately! Sunil Chhetri has been sent in for Udanta amid loud cheers from the fans! Rahul Bheke comes in as well for Nikhil Poojary at the right back spot!
The substitutions haven't worked for India yet as the attacks are becoming as sporadic as it could get. Meanwhile chants of Sunil Chhetri could be heard now from the crowd as they urge the crowd to sedn in their star player!
The attendance for the day is revealed, It's almost double the crowd from the previous two games as 10,200 fans throng the 15000-capacity Kalinga Stadium after being urged by Sunil Chhetri. But the question is will the star forward play tonight or not as Rahim Ali came in as the forward earlier.
Interesting move by Stimac as he tries Mahesh, primarily a winger, in the hole behind Rahim Ali. Mahesh had an amazing game on the left flank in the last game as the wide forward made a series of crosses into the box to give the much needed teeth in the attack.
Changes on both sides! Winger Naorem Mahesh Singh comes in for No. 10 Sahal Abdul Samad. For Lebanon, Mouhammed Ali Dhaini comes in for Nader Matar in the midfield.

There's a much better crowd turnout at the Kalinga Stadium today after Indian football star and skipper Sunil Chhetri urged Bhubaneswar to come in numbers and watch the national team in action.
Udanta makes an incisive run near into the middle of the attack and sets up a moving Sahal Abdul Samad into the box. The midfielder, however, was caught offside!
It has been a cagey affair for the last few minutes as the match is bogged down in the middle of the mark with neither of sides finding a way through!
Substitution! Igor Stimac finally puts in a striker in the game as Rahim Ali comes in for Ashique Kuruniyan close to the hour mark!
Sahal Abdul Samad latches on to a through ball and puts it past the goalkeeper to send the crowd into jubiliation but he was offside by miles!
India have taken their foot off the gas in the second half, allowing Lebanon to feel comfortable with the ball. Igor Stimac certainly won't be happy with the way their rivals are being allowed into the gam as several players are warming up already.
Call it a commentator's jinx or coincident, Nikhil Poojary sees yellow card for a foul on Farran. The Lebanese winger made a mazy run into the box right after and took a shot off the target right after! It was a heart-in-the-mouth moment for the Indian fans as the Lebanese winger exuded his quality there.
Nikhil Poojary is putting an excellent shift in defence as he has kept winger Zein Al Abidine Farran quiet despite Lebanese trying to push through the flank
Lebanese are trying to exert themselves on Indian defence but as it has been evident earlier in the tournament, Lebanon are not exactly a side, who are good at building up with possession.
The second half gets underway! Lebanon keep early possession but are unable to get inside the box.
Players are back on the field for the second half. Both the managers have made no changes at the half time.
Sorry for the delay in coverage by few minutes, there was an electricity failure at the Stadium, causing lapse in connectivity. Getting back on the game, India played an overall good game in the first half with most of the threats coming down the left flank with Udanta, Akash and Thapa connecting well. Late in the half Lebanon saw control of the game but Indian defence kept it tight at the back.
All square at half-time ⚔️

An exhilarating half of football but no goals to show for it, SO FAR 😤👊🏽#HeroIntercontinentalCup 🏆 #INDLBN ⚔️ #BlueTigers 🐯 #IndianFootball ⚽️ pic.twitter.com/VW9Jokdvdr
Lebanon earns a late indirect free-kick opportunity as Thapa fouls opponents'skipper Hassan Maatouk on the right flank. Maatouk takes the resulting freekick but wasn't exactly a threat as Indian defenders clear it with ease. The referee soon after blows the half time whistle.
Sandesh Jhigan breaks the offside trap to reach the indirect freekick by Thapa but couldn't keep the ball on target! The match official meanwhile adds two minutes of injury time in the half.
YELLOW CARD FOR LEBANON! That's the first of the game as midfielder Jihad Ayoud is reprimanded for handling the ball in his own half. An indirect free-kick opportunity for India!
With the patient build-up from the flank not getting the desired results, centre-back Anwar Ali tries to surprise Lebanon defence with a long ball for Chhangte into the box but Lebanese goalkeeper comes off his line to collect the ball. A 1.67m tall Chhangte never looked like reaching the ball anyway!
Chhangte's direct free-kick shaves the wall and goes out for a corner kick!
World No. 101 India have already qualified for the final after winning their first two games against Mongolia (2-0) and Vanuatu (1-0) respectively. Lebanon, on the other hand, have everything to play for as the Middle East side needs at least a draw to reach the final on June 18. Notably, India will continue to be without Ishan Pandita, who missed the second game with an injury.
As far as India are concerned, coach Stimac used two different line-ups for both games with only Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan as the only two players to feature in starting 11 of the first two group games. The first game saw Lallinzuala Chhangte and Abdul Sahal Samad find the net early with the latter also winning Hero of the match.
Skipper Chhetri starred in the next game as he scored an 81st-minute winner after Vanuatu's physical presence, coupled with tight defensive structure, frustrated Indian attacks for the most part of the match. It was the record 86th goal for Sunil Chhetri, who also announced his wife's pregnancy with a special goal celebration.
India have more matches coming up this month as after playing the final at the Kalinga Stadium, the Blue Tigers will head to Bengaluru to play the SAFF Championships. India will face Pakistan in the Group A opener on June 21, followed by Nepal and Kuwait.
The arrival of the Pakistan football team is still in doubt with its government yet to give them clearance to play in the tournament due to the current political scenario.
