India will be up for another gruelling task and in a do-or-die affair as they take on World No. 102 Lebanon in semifinal 2 of the SAFF Bangabandhu Championship at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (June 2).

The winner of the game will face Kuwait in the final on July 4 at the same venue as the Arab side defeated Bangladesh earlier through a solitary goal scored late in the extra time by defender Al Bloushi.

India set up the clash against Lebanon as they earlier finished second in Group A behind Kuwait in an ill-tempered final group game which saw India concede their 1-0 lead late in the stoppage time through an own goal by Anwar Ali.

The match also saw coach Igor Stimac and striker Rahim Ali being given marching orders by the referee following unsportsmanlike contact. Needless to say, the duo won't play any role in the semifinal as well. Coach Stimac, in fact, won't play any role in the final as well if India make it that far as this was his second red card offence in as many games, leading to a two-match suspension.

The coach was accused of foul-mouthing the assistant referee, leading to his second yellow card in the game after he interrupted the play early in the half. The Croat reportedly was urged by All India Football Federation officials to keep his emotion at check during the matches as the top brass felt India would be at a disadvantage if the rivals know that their coach could be provoked.

Assistant coach Mahesh Gawli, who will be in charge of the national team during the semis, panned the refereeing standard during the SAFF Championship and also blamed the officials for targetting Igor Stimac, while adding that the coach was shown a red card following a conversation.
