India vs Panama: Blue Tigers pull off valiant performance at Kanteerava to secure a stalemate

The Indian football team produced a valiant effort to secure a stalemate against Panama at the Kanteerava Stadium on Friday (September 25).

The Blue Tigers produced a top-notch performance across almost all departments, as the two teams drew 1-1.

India took a 1-0 lead against 44th-ranked Panama in their international friendly, with Ryan Williams scoring in the 41st minute. The match marked the first-ever senior international meeting between the two nations. Williams produced a stunning curled effort to put the Kanteerava in frenzy mode.

India showed confidence against a Panama side that featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Blue Tigers created opportunities during the opening half and were rewarded when Williams found the net shortly before half-time.

The goal was particularly significant for Williams, who plays his club football for Bengaluru FC. The fixture represented a special return to the stadium where he began his Indian football career, this time wearing the national colours.

Omar Valencia found an equalizer for Panama in the 68th minute with an incredible strike, but even after that, Khalid Jamil's men continued to push for a winner. Edmund Lalrindika and Manvir Singh found themselves in decent position but couldn't put the hosts ahead.

Nevertheless, the performance is a massive positive for the Indian team. Playing against a team who are 94 places above them in FIFA rankings, it was a stunning result for them, and a big confidence booster ahead of the litmus test against two former World champions

The Indian team will now fly to Kolkata for their next two matches in this international friendly window. They will take the five-time champions Brazil on October 3, while they play Uruguay on October 6 at the same venue.
