Thailand, ranked 99th, are also tuning up for their qualifier against Turkmenistan.

India head coach Manolo Márquez addressed the media ahead of the match, acknowledging the shared context of both teams. "We are preparing for the game against Hong Kong, and Thailand are preparing for Turkmenistan. It's a good friendly game for both teams because we are in a similar situation," he said.

Winger Lallianzuala Chhangte echoed the coach's sentiments, highlighting the squad's determination. "We've been working really hard for these two matches. We take this friendly game seriously and want to win it as well. Our focus is on ourselves, and hopefully, we can execute what we've been working on."

This match marks the first meeting between India and Thailand since 2019, when India recorded a 4-1 win at the AFC Asian Cup and followed it up with a 1-0 victory at the King's Cup. However, Márquez believes those results hold little relevance today. "Those games were a long time ago. I think both teams have changed players since then... I expect a good game. We are here to win."

Thailand coach Masatada Ishii downplayed past results too. "We lost the last two games against India, but there have been a lot of changes. It doesn't matter. We want to win and use this game as preparation."

With revamped squads and a shared goal of qualifying for the Asian Cup, both teams are expected to bring intensity to what promises to be a closely contested fixture.
