New Indian football team head coach, Manolo Marquez, has announced the probable 26-man squad for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup preparatory camp.
The squad includes several retained players from the World Cup qualifiers in June against Kuwait and Qatar, as Marquez looks to build a solid foundation ahead of his first competitive matches in charge.

Retained players
Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh, Amrinder Singh
Defenders: Anwar Ali, Jay Gupta, Mehtab Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Rahul Bheke
Midfielders: Anirudh Thapa, Jeakson Singh, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Naorem Mahesh Singh, Nandhakumar Sekar, Sahal Abdul Samad, Suresh Singh Wangjam
Forwards: Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, Edmund Lalrindika
Among the retained players are goalkeepers Gurpreet Singh and Amrinder Singh, both of whom have been key figures in India's defense over the years.
Their experience will be vital as Marquez begins to implement his style of play and prepare the team for the crucial upcoming fixtures. In defense, the squad features Anwar Ali, Jay Gupta, Mehtab Singh, Nikhil Poojary, and Rahul Bheke.
These defenders have proven their ability on the international stage and will be central to Marquez's plans in organizing a resilient backline. Anwar Ali, in particular, has become a reliable force at the heart of the defense, while Bheke's versatility offers the coach additional tactical options.
The midfield remains a strong point for India, with the likes of Anirudh Thapa, Jeakson Singh, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Mahesh Singh Naorem, Nandhakumar Sekar, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Suresh Singh Wangjam retained from the June squad.
This midfield unit has been praised for its dynamism and creativity, and Marquez will be looking to get the best out of them in the coming matches. Thapa and Chhangte will be especially important in linking play and driving the team forward.
The forwards in the squad include Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, and Edmund Lalrindika, all of whom are known for their pace and goal-scoring abilities. Their performances will be under scrutiny as India looks to rediscover its attacking edge, something that has been lacking in recent outings.
The appointment of Manolo Marquez comes at a crucial juncture for Indian football. After a disastrous run in the AFC Asian Cup in January and a poor showing in the World Cup qualifiers, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) parted ways with former coach Igor Stimac. Marquez was brought in last month to revitalize the team, and these upcoming matches will be the first true test of his tenure.
The Intercontinental Cup matches are not just important for Marquez but also for the players, as they seek to impress the new coach and secure their spots in the squad for future international campaigns. The performances in these matches will reveal much about Marquez's approach and India's future under his leadership.
