Indian Navy FT vs Inter Kashi, Durand Cup 2024: Kashi end group stage with 2-1 win

Inter Kashi defeated Indian Navy FT (INFT) 2-1, keeping their hopes alive for the knockout stage in Group B of the Durand Cup 2024 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan. The Navy Men initially took the lead in the 52nd minute with a goal by Novin Gurung.

However, Inter Kashi quickly responded with goals from Nikola Stojanovic and substitute Tomba Singh, securing their first-ever Durand Cup win and finishing their debut campaign with four points.

Under the guidance of coach Raman Rai, INFT began with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Sreyas leading the attack, supported by Britto and Vijay on the wings. Inter Kashi opted for a 4-3-3 formation, featuring Sweden, Edmund, and Mario Barco in their attacking line.

Inter Kashi consistently challenged the Navy defense throughout the first half, but thanks to crucial saves from goalkeeper Vishnu and strong defense led by captain Novin Gurung, INFT managed to keep the score level. Despite intense pressure from Inter Kashi, particularly in the closing moments of the first half, they couldn't break the deadlock.

After the break, the Navy Men started strongly and created several opportunities. They took the lead from a set-piece when Vijay was fouled by Mandi just outside the box. Pintu Mahata's cross was met by a leaping Gurung, who headed powerfully past Kashi's goalkeeper Shubham Das, despite his attempt to save it.

In the 59th minute, Navy keeper Vishnu was substituted due to an injury, with R. Robinson taking his place. Inter Kashi equalized in the 65th minute with a long-range strike from Serbian player Nikola Stojanovic, his second goal of the tournament.

Inter Kashi took the lead just a minute later when Tomba Singh headed in a rebound off the post from another Stojanovic effort, completing their comeback. The Varanasi-based team continued to press for a third goal but couldn't create clear opportunities. However, they maintained their one-goal advantage to secure the victory.
