In the rarest of incidents, an Indonesian footballer died during a local match after getting struck by lightning midway through the game on Monday (February 12). The moment was captured on the camera by a fan watching the game at the Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, West Java.
The video of the incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media. According to media reports, the 35-year-old unnamed Indonesian player died on the spot after the mishap during the friendly football match between two local clubs -- 2 FLO FC Bandung and FBI Subang.

The incident was captured on a video from the stands, in which it can be seen that a player playing football on the field is suddenly struck by lightning. Death occurred within a few seconds Within seconds of being struck by lightning, the player falls to the ground. By the time other players come and check on him, he is already dead.
According to local media, the weather was clear when the match started but it deteriorated with time. Despite being a rarest of incident, a similar incident happened during an U-13 tournament, when a young player lost his life to lightning on the field.
According to the statements of other players involved in that match, the player was still breathing after being struck by lightning. But he died due to severe injuries. The video of that incident became viral on the social media as well.
Outside Indonesia, A similar tragic outcome befell Caio Henrique de Lima Goncalves, a 21-year-old Brazilian football player, who was struck by lightning while playing for his team Uniao Jaiirense in Parana earlier in the previous year.
