Chelsea Women Injury Update: Chelsea Not In Crisis Ahead Of Champions League Quarter-Final Vs Arsenal

Chelsea Women emphasise they are not in crisis despite several first-team injuries as they head to Arsenal for the Champions League quarter-final. With key players sidelined and a late decision on Aggie Beever-Jones, the squad remains confident they can field a competitive team for the decisive clash.

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor insisted the club are not in crisis, even as several senior players miss the Women's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, stressing that preparations remain controlled despite a heavily reduced group in the final training session.

Only eight players were visible in Monday's training, yet Bompastor downplayed any alarm around squad depth. "Are we playing the World Sevens [7-aside tournament] tomorrow?" Bompastor joked. "No, we are aware we are playing a big game, a Champions League quarter-final."

Chelsea Women Injury Update: QF vs Arsenal

The Chelsea head coach explained that several footballers followed tailored recovery plans because of the busy calendar and short breaks between matches. "When you are playing a lot of games and there are quick turnarounds, a lot of players do individual programs. So everything is under control, and we will have enough players to play the game tomorrow. Don't worry. I'm not concerned."

Bompastor underlined the technical staff's confidence in their methods for the Champions League schedule. "I think as a staff, our job is to make sure we prepare the players in the best way possible for them to come into every game and prepare as prepared as possible. I think we have enough experience in the staff and myself to understand where they are and what is the best preparation for them going into the next game."

The manager confirmed that a late call will be taken on Aggie Beever-Jones after an ankle problem suffered against London City Lionesses. Millie Bright, Nathalie Bjorn, Mayra Ramirez and Niamh Charles remain sidelined and will not feature in the first leg against Arsenal in the Champions League.

Two more regular starters, Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter, are unavailable for the Champions League tie after playing the Asian Cup final, where Australia lost 1-0 to Japan on Saturday. Bompastor indicated that both could return in time for the Women's Super League meeting with Aston Villa this weekend.

Bompastor described the situation around Kerr and Carpenter as complex for the coaching group and the players. "I think we are in a position when it's really difficult to make a decision for them to be available," Bompastor added. "Actually, it's a shame a little bit because I think they are important players for us. I just think during the season for your club, it's hard because they can't play for both. And actually we won our first trophy and I'm sure both of them would have been really happy to be around the team. But it is what it is. They are not with us, we'll see how it goes in the next days. It's a high risk to have them involved in the game tomorrow."

Champions League history between Chelsea, Arsenal and English rivals

Arsenal, reigning Women's Champions League holders after securing a second title last season, host the first leg at Emirates Stadium. This tie is only Arsenal's second European meeting with another English club, after losing 0-1 away and 0-2 at home to Birmingham City in the 2013-14 quarter-finals.

Chelsea have limited recent Champions League history against domestic opposition as well. The club faced Manchester City last season, losing the away leg 2-0 but overturning the deficit with a 3-0 home victory to progress, a result that underlined the squad's resilience in two-legged European contests.

Domestically, Chelsea have struggled against Arsenal this Women's Super League campaign, recording one draw and one defeat across two meetings. Chelsea have not completed a season with three or more games against the same opponent without at least one win since 2018-19, when they faced Manchester City four times, drawing twice and losing twice.

Despite that recent league form, Chelsea's away record against Arsenal in all competitions offers some encouragement for the Champions League clash. The team have lost only two of their last 14 visits, earning eight wins and four draws, a sequence that suggests the London rivals are usually closely matched.

Bompastor's focus now turns to balancing player welfare with competitive demands in the Champions League and domestic schedule. With several absentees, a cautious stance on Kerr and Carpenter, and a challenging opponent, Chelsea enter the tie under pressure but with a clear belief from the staff that preparation and experience can sustain their European push.
