Inter Secures 2-1 Victory Over Udinese Thanks To Yann Sommer's Late Saves

Yann Sommer's exceptional performance helped Inter Milan secure a 2-1 victory over Udinese. The win extends Inter's lead in Serie A as they aim for the title.

Inter Milan secured a 2-1 victory over Udinese, largely thanks to Yann Sommer's exceptional goalkeeping. The Swiss international made several crucial saves, particularly during a frantic end to the match. Inter's manager, Simone Inzaghi, was sent off for stepping onto the pitch. This win extends Inter's lead in Serie A to six points before Napoli faces AC Milan.

Inter nearly took an early lead when Davide Frattesi's shot was saved by Maduka Okoye, and his follow-up hit the post. However, Marko Arnautovic soon scored after Federico Dimarco set him up with a precise pass. Dimarco was instrumental again as he assisted Frattesi for Inter's second goal, redeeming Frattesi's earlier miss with a well-placed finish.

Inter Triumphs 2-1 Against Udinese

Udinese fought back in the 71st minute when Oumar Solet made a powerful run from midfield and scored past Sommer. Despite this, Sommer remained vigilant, stopping efforts from Lorenzo Lucca and Solet later in the game to preserve Inter's lead.

This victory marks Inter's 20th league win of the season, achieving this milestone in two consecutive seasons for only the second time in their history. They previously accomplished this between 2005-06 and 2008-09. Additionally, Inter has now won five consecutive matches across all competitions for the first time since December 2024 to January 2025.

Federico Dimarco has been outstanding this season with nine goals and 12 assists. He is one of three defenders in Europe's top five leagues involved in over 20 goals over the last two seasons, alongside Bayer Leverkusen's Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong.

Age Factor in Team Selection

In their match against Udinese, Inter fielded their oldest starting lineup of the Serie A season. The average age of their starting XI was 31 years and 225 days. This experience may have contributed to their composed performance throughout the match.

The team's current form and strategic play have positioned them strongly at the top of Serie A. With key players like Sommer and Dimarco performing consistently well, Inter looks poised to maintain their lead as they continue through the season.
