Inter Secures 3-1 Victory Over Cagliari To Strengthen Serie A Lead

Inter Milan triumphed over Cagliari with a score of 3-1, reinforcing their position at the top of Serie A. Goals from Arnautovic and Martinez were pivotal in this match.

Inter Milan secured a 3-1 victory over Cagliari at San Siro, reinforcing their lead in Serie A. This win extended their advantage to six points at the top, with Napoli yet to play against Empoli on Monday. Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring for Inter after 13 minutes, capitalising on a defensive error to score from close range.

Roberto Piccoli had a chance to level the score in the 26th minute but failed to beat Yann Sommer in a one-on-one situation. Moments later, Inter doubled their lead when Lautaro Martinez received a pass from Arnautovic and skilfully chipped the ball over Elia Caprile.

Inter Defeats Cagliari to Maintain Serie A Lead

Inter have been formidable at home, winning six consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since October 2023 to March 2024. Under Simone Inzaghi's guidance since 2021-22, they have achieved 54 home victories in Serie A. Only Manchester City and Liverpool have more home wins in Europe's top five leagues during this period.

Cagliari managed to reduce the deficit three minutes into the second half when Piccoli was left unmarked and headed into the top-left corner. However, Inter restored their two-goal cushion in the 55th minute as Yann Bisseck scored with a header from a corner.

Lautaro Martinez's goal came at a crucial moment following Piccoli's missed opportunity. He has become the first player involved in at least 15 goals in each of the last six Serie A seasons, boasting 12 goals and three assists this season.

Stefan de Vrij made a crucial late block to deny Piccoli again, while Bisseck missed another chance by sending his effort over the crossbar. Despite these misses, Bisseck's earlier goal had already secured victory for Inter.

With only six games left in the title race, Inter are well-positioned at the top of Serie A. Their consistent performance at home has been key to maintaining their lead as they aim for further success this season.
