Inter Seeks To Overcome Previous Derby Mistakes Against AC Milan In Supercoppa Final

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has committed to learning from past errors as his team prepares to face AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Monday. Inter aims for a fourth consecutive Supercoppa victory in Riyadh, which would tie them with Juventus for the record of nine titles. Despite being contenders for the Scudetto, their last encounter with Milan in September was a setback.

During that match, Federico Dimarco equalised after Christian Pulisic's initial goal, but Matteo Gabbia secured an 89th-minute winner for Milan. This upcoming game marks only the second under new Milan coach Sergio Conceicao. Inzaghi acknowledges the need for improvement from their previous derby performance.

Inzaghi reminisced about memorable games, including a Champions League semi-final victory in 2023. He stated, "We also remember the last one, it was a defeat where we deserved to lose. We will try to avoid the mistakes of that match, knowing that Milan have changed coach but have quality players." Lautaro Martinez will lead Inter despite scoring just once in his last nine matches.

The Argentine forward has been crucial throughout Inzaghi's leadership. Inzaghi expressed confidence in Martinez's form: "Lautaro's importance is great, I've said it several times. He is a great captain, he has inherited an important armband and is managing it in the best way." Inzaghi understands the pressure of scoring goals as a former striker himself.

When asked about reliance on Martinez, Inzaghi responded: "I think that all my teams have always looked for the striker to score goals, they have always scored." The team also seeks contributions from Marcus Thuram, Marco Arnautovic, Joaquin Correa, and Mehdi Taremi. They aim to maximise scoring opportunities across various positions.

Inzaghi remains optimistic about his team's overall performance and believes they are scoring effectively with different roles contributing. As Inter prepares for this crucial match against Milan, they focus on refining their strategy and avoiding past mistakes to secure another Supercoppa title.
