Inter's president, Giuseppe Marotta, has confirmed that Cristian Chivu will take over as the club's new manager. This follows Simone Inzaghi's departure after a four-year tenure. Inzaghi left Inter shortly after their 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final and narrowly missing out on the Scudetto to Napoli by one point. He is now set to join Al-Hilal.
Initially, Cesc Fabregas was considered the leading candidate for the managerial position. However, Como's president, Mirwan Suwarso, stated they declined Inter's approach. Consequently, Italian media reported that former Inter player Chivu emerged as the top contender. Although an official announcement is pending due to ongoing discussions with Parma, Marotta confirmed Chivu's appointment at the Serie A festival.

Chivu has reportedly signed a two-year contract with Inter, lasting until June 2027. Before this role, he managed Parma for three months starting in February. During his brief stint there, he achieved three wins in 13 matches, resulting in a win rate of 23.1%. Parma averaged 1.2 points per game under his leadership.
The 44-year-old Romanian spent seven years playing for Inter before retiring from professional football. His first match as Inter's manager will be against Monterrey in the Club World Cup on June 17 at California's Rose Bowl.
Marotta emphasised that winning requires more than just financial resources; it demands expertise, planning, and experience. "All these qualities are what we believe to have, for example, in the case of Chivu," Marotta stated. He added that while he could not provide official confirmation due to bureaucratic issues with Parma, Chivu embodies these essential qualities.
The decision to appoint Chivu comes after careful consideration of his potential to lead the team successfully. Despite limited managerial experience at Parma, his connection with Inter and understanding of its culture played a significant role in his selection.
This new chapter for Inter aims to build on past successes while addressing recent challenges faced by the club. With Chivu at the helm, expectations are high for a promising future both domestically and internationally.
