Inter's Fixture Congestion Blamed For 2-2 Draw Against Parma In Serie A

Massimiliano Farris, Inter's assistant coach, cites fixture congestion as a factor in their 2-2 draw with Parma. The team struggles with mental and physical energy amid a busy schedule.

Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris attributed their 2-2 draw with Parma to a congested fixture schedule, which has opened the door for their Serie A title rivals. Farris stepped in for Simone Inzaghi, who was banned after receiving a red card during last week's victory over Udinese. Inter's busy schedule includes eight matches in April, impacting their performance.

Inter recently faced AC Milan in a 1-1 draw during the Coppa Italia semi-finals and are set to play Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday. Farris believes these demanding fixtures have affected the team's energy levels, contributing to Saturday's draw after they lost a two-goal lead post-half-time.

Inter Attributes Draw to Fixture Congestion

"We are coming off tough games against physical teams and we know what the derby demands in terms of mental energy," Farris told reporters. "We've had a lot of tough games recently and this time we didn't have the mental and physical energy to keep our opponents at bay."

Matteo Darmian scored for Inter after 15 minutes, with Marcus Thuram extending their lead just before halftime. However, Parma responded in the second half with goals from substitutes Adrian Bernabe and Jacob Ondrejka, preventing Inter from extending their lead at the top of the table.

Inter currently leads Serie A with 68 points, four points ahead of Napoli. Napoli could narrow this gap to one point if they win against Bologna on Monday. According to Opta's supercomputer, Inter has a 76% chance of retaining their title, while Napoli has a 23.5% chance of overtaking them, with Atalanta having a slim 0.5% chance.

"It's happened before, it's not surprising. It's a question of mental and physical energy," Farris commented on the situation. "We didn't want to drop points, but this can happen. It's no drama; we've come out of worse situations."

Upcoming Challenges

The team is now focused on their upcoming match against Bayern Munich, where they aim to give their best performance. "Now we're heading to Bayern Munich and we'll try to give 100% for this game," said Farris. The final sprint promises excitement as Inter aims to maintain confidence throughout.

The conclusion of this intense period will be crucial for Inter as they strive to secure their position at the top of Serie A amidst fierce competition from Napoli and others.
