Inter Close In On Scudetto As Chivu Sees Dream Ahead

Inter move towards a 21st Serie A crown while preparing for a tricky trip to Torino, knowing Opta’s supercomputer gives a 99.9% chance of lifting the Scudetto. Napoli’s 4-0 victory over Cremonese delays any celebrations, yet Inter keep a nine-point cushion and arrive in Turin with confidence and pressure mixed.

Cristian Chivu’s team collect results consistently, going five league matches without defeat since losing 1-0 to AC Milan in early March. That sequence includes two wins and three draws, while Inter also stage a dramatic Coppa Italia turnaround against Como, recovering from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and set up a Lazio final.

Inter on Track to Reclaim Scudetto

The comeback against Como keeps hopes alive of a domestic double, but Chivu stresses the league work across many months. Inter lead comfortably, yet the staff focus on gathering the last points needed. The coach highlights how performances before and after the international break shape their current advantage and mindset.

Chivu explains the group’s mood and mindset in detail. "We're relaxed and know the hard work we've already done, as well as the fact that we still need points to finish the job," Chivu said. "We're getting closer to what is both one of our objectives and a dream. I talk about the entire campaign, because even going into the break for international duty, we still had a big advantage at the top. We had some results that were below expectations at thattime, yetwere six 6-7 points clear. We did well to get the results against Roma and Como, albeit aware of the difficulties, and now are in a position that allows us to dream freely."

The Inter head coach underlines that recent weeks alone do not tell the full story. "Everyone talks about what happened lately, but the last four matches are not everything. There is an entire season to evaluate. I would talk about a side that scores 78 goals, always tried to put in good performances, and has become more effective."

Inter’s away form in Serie A this season stands out, with 12 victories from 16 trips. The club exceed that total in only three previous campaigns, recording 15 away wins in 2023-24 and 2006-07, plus 13 in 2019-20. This strength on the road supports their strong title position.

Historically, Inter control this fixture, avoiding defeat in 127 of 163 Serie A meetings with Torino, with 77 wins, 50 draws and 36 losses. Success in Turin would also match Juventus’ 78 league victories against Torino. Inter win each of the last three away clashes with Torino, scoring six without reply.

Chivu’s side could set another small milestone at Torino’s stadium. Inter have never before managed four straight Serie A away victories there with clean sheets in each during a single stretch. The last similar run, also five wins to nil, occurs between September 1994 and February 2003.

Inter vs Torino team form and players to watch

Torino sit 13th in Serie A and come from a goalless draw against Cremonese, leaving limited targets beyond pride and momentum. Since Roberto D’Aversa takes charge, Torino remain unbeaten in three games, with two wins and one draw, and now chase a fourth successive positive result for the first time since late 2025.

D’Aversa oversees a perfect home start in the league, winning all three home fixtures. Torino last enjoy a longer home streak in a single Serie A season under Walter Mazzarri, taking five straight victories between December 2018 and March 2019, a sequence that includes a 1-0 success against Inter.

Giovanni Simeone leads Torino’s threat. The forward scores nine Serie A goals this season and now targets double figures for the first time since the 2021-22 campaign, when scoring 17 for Hellas Verona. Simeone finds the net in each of the last three top-flight home matches, matching his previous 33 home appearances combined.

Marcus Thuram remains a key figure for Inter in this fixture. Torino are the opponents against whom Thuram scores most often in Serie A, with six goals in four meetings, including a hat-trick at San Siro on 5 October 2024. This season Thuram reaches 11 league goals, continuing a productive run in Italy.

The French forward joins exclusive Inter company. Thuram becomes the third foreign player at the club to hit at least 10 league goals in each of the first three Serie A seasons, following Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Stefano Nyers, who manage this in the first five campaigns. Inter again rely on Thuram’s movement and finishing in Turin.

Opta’s model highlights Inter as clear favourites despite Torino’s improvement. The win probability numbers show Torino at 16 per cent, a draw at 20.8 per cent, and Inter at 63.2 per cent. These figures match Inter’s long-term dominance in this match-up and the current away form under Chivu.

Inter approach the trip to Torino with a strong league cushion, impressive away numbers and an upcoming Coppa Italia final against Lazio. Torino present a tougher challenge under D’Aversa, with Simeone in form and home results improving, yet Opta and the season’s statistics continue to place Inter closer to completing the title objective.
