Inter Milan Secures 2-0 Win Over Atalanta To Extend Serie A Lead

Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A to three points after defeating Atalanta 2-0 at the Gewiss Stadium. Both teams ended with ten players as Ederson and Alessandro Bastoni were sent off late in the match. Inter capitalised on Napoli's earlier draw with Venezia, leaving Atalanta six points behind the leaders.

In the first half, both teams sought the opening goal. Marcus Thuram hit the crossbar for Inter, while Mario Pasalic forced a save from Yann Sommer for Atalanta. Nine minutes into the second half, Carlos Augusto scored with a header from Hakan Calhanoglu's corner, giving Inter the lead.

Lautaro Martinez sealed Inter's victory by scoring after receiving Nicolo Barella's pass. He shot past Marco Carnesecchi into the bottom left corner. Despite being cautioned earlier, Bastoni was dismissed for fouling Daniel Maldini, leaving Inter with ten men.

Martinez has been pivotal for Inter this season, scoring his 17th goal across all competitions and his 10th in Serie A. Since last season, only Kylian Mbappe has more away goals in Europe's top leagues than Martinez, who is tied with Erling Haaland at 22.

Inter have now beaten Atalanta six consecutive times in Serie A, a streak not seen since 1997-2001. They also achieved four consecutive clean sheets against Atalanta for the first time since 1965-1967. Martinez has scored seven goals against Atalanta since his debut goal against them in 2019-20.
