Inter's Simone Inzaghi Discusses Embracing Fixture Challenges This Season

Simone Inzaghi emphasises the importance of embracing a hectic fixture list for Inter this season. With success in Serie A and upcoming Champions League matches, he highlights the team's resilience despite injuries.

Simone Inzaghi believes Inter Milan should embrace the demanding schedule they face, viewing it as a source of motivation. The team is excelling in multiple competitions this season. They lead 2-0 against Feyenoord in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, thanks to goals from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez. Additionally, Inter tops the Serie A standings after defeating Monza 3-2.

Inter's busy calendar continues with a Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan and a crucial league match against Atalanta before the international break. They will conclude March by hosting Udinese. Inzaghi emphasised that the packed schedule should be seen as an incentive rather than a burden. "We have to be proud of what we're doing; these guys find the energy," he told reporters.

Inzaghi on Inter's Busy Fixture Schedule

Despite recent injuries, Inzaghi remains optimistic about his squad's performance. Midfielder Piotr Zielinski faces up to two months out due to a muscle injury, while Lautaro Martinez and Stefan de Vrij might rest against Feyenoord to prepare for Atalanta. Martinez has scored six goals in nine Champions League games this season, including one in the first leg versus Feyenoord.

Inter boasts an impressive home record in the Champions League, winning their last five matches without conceding a goal. They aim to match Atletico Madrid's seven consecutive clean sheets from April 2015 and Juventus' similar feat from December 2002. However, injuries have posed challenges recently.

The club confirmed Yann Sommer's return from a thumb injury for the Feyenoord match. Inzaghi praised Sommer: "He is a goalkeeper who has been here with us for a year and a half; in that time he has done great things." Sommer's presence will bolster Inter's defence as they aim for another clean sheet.

Squad Rotation Strategy

Inzaghi plans to rotate players based on their physical condition, acknowledging some fatigue within the squad. "I will rotate according to the physical state of the players," he said. Despite not training recently, Inzaghi remains hopeful about Martinez and De Vrij's availability.

The coach expressed disappointment over Zielinski's untimely injury but remains confident in his team's depth and resilience. "The usual unavailable players have been joined by Zielinski, who had a major injury at a time we didn't want," Inzaghi noted.

As Inter navigates their challenging schedule, they remain focused on maintaining their strong performances across all competitions. The team aims to continue their successful run while managing player fitness effectively.
