Inter's Inzaghi Voices Concerns Over Lautaro Martinez's Injury Before Key Champions League Match

Simone Inzaghi is doubtful about Lautaro Martinez's availability for the upcoming Champions League semi-final due to a hamstring injury. Despite fitness issues, Inter remains optimistic following a strong performance against Barcelona.

Inter Milan's impressive 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League was overshadowed by injury concerns. Lautaro Martinez is doubtful for the second leg due to a hamstring issue. Despite squandering leads of 2-0 and 3-2, Inter remains optimistic about their home leg next Tuesday. Benjamin Pavard is also sidelined with an ankle injury, adding to their fitness woes.

Simone Inzaghi expressed uncertainty about Martinez's availability, stating, "Lautaro felt something in his leg and we will know more tomorrow after we run some tests, but it seems extremely unlikely that he can make it to the second leg, which will be a final for us." He hopes Pavard might return but is less optimistic about Martinez.

Inzaghi Concerned About Martinez's Injury Status

Denzel Dumfries, who scored twice for Inter, downplayed the missed opportunity to secure a win. He highlighted the team's resilience following three consecutive domestic losses. Dumfries stated, "I think it was a good game from our side. After some bad results, we saw the real Inter again, playing with heart out there, and I am really proud."

Martinez has been crucial for Inter this season with eight Champions League goals from chances worth just 4.2 expected goals (xG). His absence could significantly impact Inter's attacking prowess in the upcoming match at San Siro.

Dumfries' performance was notable as he became the first Dutch player since Wesley Sneijder in April 2010 to score and assist in a Champions League semi-final for Inter against Barcelona. This achievement underscores his contribution to the team's efforts.

The team remains hopeful about their prospects at San Siro. Dumfries added, "Sure, we wanted to win, but it was a good game and a result that leaves the semi-final completely open. We will see at San Siro where everything is possible for us."

Inzaghi is counting on strong support from fans to help them succeed in what he describes as a crucial match. He said, "It will be a final for us and I'm counting on 75,000 of our fans to help us achieve this remarkable accomplishment."

Despite recent setbacks in Serie A and Coppa Italia, Inter aims to demonstrate their strength consistently. The upcoming match offers them an opportunity to prove their capabilities on a significant stage.
