Inter Kashi’s All-Indian Squad Faces Revamped Kerala Blasters in ISL Opener

New Delhi, Oct 11: Inter Kashi will begin their Indian Super League campaign against a revamped Kerala Blasters FC at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Sunday, with both sides looking to make an early statement in the new season.

The contest presents an intriguing contrast, with Inter Kashi preparing to compete with an all-Indian squad, while Kerala Blasters head into the campaign with a reshaped squad featuring four new overseas recruits under head coach Ashley Westwood.

Inter Kashi s All-Indian Squad Faces Revamped Kerala Blasters in ISL Opener

Playing at the Pune venue, which will serve as their home ground this season, Inter Kashi will aim to make the most of their home advantage. The side can also draw confidence from their 2-1 victory over Kerala Blasters in Kochi earlier this year.

Inter Kashi have registered 22 Indian players ahead of a fresh FIFA transfer-registration ban, building a squad that includes several footballers with previous ISL experience. Goalkeeper Albino Gomes, signed from Jamshedpur FC, will be among the key figures, alongside defender Laldinliana Renthlei, winger Rosenberg Gilbert Gabriel, forward Manvir Singh and striker Ayush Chhikara.

The challenge for Inter Kashi will be to translate that experience into a cohesive performance against a Kerala Blasters outfit that has undergone considerable changes during the off-season.

Revamped Kerala Blasters Look Strong For ISL

Under their new ownership, the Blasters have made significant additions to their squad. Westwood has brought back influential midfielder Adrián Luna, while the club's overseas recruitment includes English defender James Bolton, winger Andre Green, Montenegro international midfielder Nebojša Kosović and Guinean forward Momo Yansane.

Kerala have also bolstered their domestic contingent with the arrivals of experienced goalkeeper Amrinder Singh and midfielder Mohammad Yasir, adding depth and experience to their options. Amrinder's signing adds another dimension to the contest, given that Inter Kashi goalkeeper Gomes also has previous links with the Blasters.

Luna expects a challenging encounter, emphasising that the quality of the opposition cannot be judged solely by the composition of its squad. "Every game here in India is tough. It doesn't matter if you play with an Indian squad or with foreigners," the Kerala Blasters captain said.

Westwood, meanwhile, has set ambitious targets for the campaign, with the club aiming to compete for silverware. "Our sole aim is to win every football match and to win trophies," the Kerala Blasters head coach said ahead of the clash.

The visitors will, however, be without defender Bikash Yumnam, who is expected to remain sidelined for approximately a month due to a calf injury. With Inter Kashi relying on a domestic core strengthened by ISL experience and Kerala Blasters looking to turn their extensive recruitment into immediate results, Sunday's fixture promises an early examination of both teams' preparations and ambitions.

For Inter Kashi, the priority will be to demonstrate that an all-Indian squad can compete against a side with a stronger overseas presence. Kerala Blasters, meanwhile, will be eager to begin the Westwood era with a positive result and lay the foundation for a competitive campaign.
