Inter's Experienced Squad Faces PSG In Crucial Champions League Final Showdown

Inter Milan's season, once filled with promise, now teeters on the edge as they gear up to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Earlier this season, Inter seemed poised for a treble victory. However, they fell short in both the Coppa Italia and Serie A, making Saturday's match against PSG in Munich their last opportunity for silverware.

Inter's recent Champions League matches have been eventful, highlighted by a thrilling semi-final against Barcelona. They secured a 7-6 aggregate win thanks to Francesco Acerbi's late equaliser and Davide Frattesi's extra-time winner. Acerbi, still haunted by the 2023 final loss, chose the perfect moment to score his first European goal.

The team boasts significant experience with players like Yann Sommer and Matteo Darmian over 30 years old. This veteran presence has been crucial for Inter. Only Atletico Madrid (43.5%) have given more minutes to players aged 30+ than Inter (43.3%) this season.

Simone Inzaghi faces the challenge of lifting his team after losing the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day. "The championship just concluded left us with something to remember," Inzaghi said on Monday. "There is a lot of suffering in myself and in the players; it's pointless denying it."

Inter have trailed for just 1.2% of their Champions League matches this season, never falling behind for more than 370 seconds in any game. They spent over half their time winning (50.8%), showcasing their dominance.

Unlike PSG’s youthful squad, Inter relies on seasoned players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Stefan de Vrij. Their experience has guided them through tough matches this season. Inzaghi hopes to overcome past disappointments and secure victory against PSG.

Their attempt to replicate Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning side of 2010 ended with a 3-0 defeat to AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg. League losses around that time handed control back to Napoli in the title race.

Inzaghi has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal but remains focused on achieving success with Inter Milan first.
