Inter's Lautaro Martinez Highlights Lamine Yamal's Talent While Dismissing Messi Comparisons

Lautaro Martinez has expressed admiration for Lamine Yamal's talent but emphasised that comparing him to Lionel Messi is not appropriate. Yamal, who emerged as a key player in the 2023-24 season, led Spain to victory in the European Championship and continues to excel under Hansi Flick. The 17-year-old has contributed 34 goals this season, keeping his team's treble aspirations alive.

Yamal's journey with Barcelona began with a single appearance during their 2022-23 LaLiga triumph. This season, however, he has become a crucial player for the Blaugrana, helping them secure two more major titles. He scored in the Supercopa de Espana final against Real Madrid and played throughout their thrilling Copa del Rey win over their Clasico rivals last Saturday.

Despite Yamal's impressive rise, comparisons to Lionel Messi are inevitable. Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, made 778 appearances for Barcelona before departing in 2021. During his time at the club, Messi won 10 LaLiga titles and four Champions League trophies, scoring 672 goals and providing 303 assists over 17 years.

Martinez stated, "For me, Leo [Messi] is incomparable because Leo is and will always be the best player of all time." He refrained from comparing Yamal to Messi but acknowledged Yamal's significance as a player. "All I can say is that Lamine is an important player. We've all seen him; we all know him," Martinez added.

At just 16 years old, Yamal became the youngest scorer in LaLiga history and the youngest player to participate in a European Championship with Spain. His performances earned him the Young Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2024. Last year, he also received the Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy accolades.

Martinez praised Yamal's achievements: "At his young age, he's doing a great job and has won important titles with his national team." He believes Yamal deserves respect and sees a promising future ahead for him.
