Inter Miami Secures Comeback Victory Against Los Angeles FC In CONCACAF Champions Cup

Lionel Messi scored twice as Inter Miami overcame a first-leg deficit to defeat Los Angeles FC 3-1, winning 3-2 on aggregate in the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-finals.

Inter Miami triumphed over Los Angeles FC with a 3-1 victory in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, winning 3-2 on aggregate. Lionel Messi was instrumental, scoring twice to overturn Miami's initial deficit. In the first leg, Miami had lost under Javier Mascherano's leadership, with Nathan Ordaz securing LAFC's only goal.

Messi's influence at home is undeniable. Since early 2024, he has contributed to goals in 18 out of 19 home matches for Miami. His performance against LAFC was exceptional, creating seven chances and leading in touches and shots on target. This win sets up a semi-final clash with Vancouver Whitecaps.

Inter Miami Beats Los Angeles FC in Cup Match

The match saw Aaron Long extend LAFC's lead early in the second leg by capitalising on a corner. However, Messi soon responded by scoring from a deflected Luis Suarez pass just before half-time. Despite an earlier disallowed free-kick goal due to a referee decision, Messi remained pivotal.

Federico Redondo equalised for Miami after half-time by heading Noah Allen's pass past Hugo Lloris. Although Suarez had a header ruled offside, Messi secured the win with an 84th-minute penalty following Marlon's handball incident during a corner.

Marlon avoided further punishment despite his handball leading to Messi's decisive penalty. As tensions rose towards the end, LAFC nearly snatched victory through away goals during stoppage time. However, Oscar Ustari denied Denis Bouanga in a crucial one-on-one situation.

Miami's confidence at their Fort Lauderdale base was evident despite their lacklustre first-leg performance. Messi’s consistent home form bolstered their belief in overturning the tie. His leadership was clear as he topped metrics like expected goals and shots on target.

This victory highlights Messi’s vital role in Inter Miami’s success as they advance to face Vancouver Whitecaps next. His ability to create opportunities and score crucial goals remains unmatched, making him an invaluable asset for his team.
