Inter Miami have terminated goalkeeper Nick Marsman's contract, only weeks after he expressed concern over Lionel Messi's presence in Major League Soccer.

Lionel Messi has had an excellent start to life in the United States so far. He is yet to appear in MLS however has managed to score in all of his Inter Miami outings so far, totalling seven goals in four games in the 2023 Leagues Cup.

The 36-year-old World Cup winner has been most crucial in the Herons' run to the quarterfinals. Since his arrival, Inter Miami has not lost a game and he is, without a doubt, the man of the hour in South Florida.



While his outstanding accomplishments are unsurprising, not everyone expected him to be a such good match. In fact, Inter Miami recently terminated goalkeeper, Nick Marsman expressed the same concern just a couple of months back.

Marsman provided a critical evaluation before the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner officially joined the MLS team.

He said: "I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival.

"We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren't ready," he added.

And now just a few weeks after he made the statements, Inter Miami have now chosen to terminate and buy out the Dutchman's contract.

MLS laws only allow a team to perform such an action once every season, and David Beckham's club decided to use it on the 32-year-old Dutch goalkeeper.

Marsman joined Inter Miami in the middle of the 2021 season after spending two years with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. The 32-year-old made 29 appearances but lost his place to Drake Callender eventually.

Inter Miami were already to part ways with the keeper, however, the remarks on the former PSG star could have in some ways also played a part.
