Inter Milan CEO Doesn't Rule Out Andre Onana's Return

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has refused to rule out Andre Onana returning to San Siro at some stage in the future amid his struggles for Manchester United.

The Cameroonian moved to Inter on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and impressed for the Italian giants during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 41 occasions, keeping 19 clean sheets in the process.

The 27-year-old then made the switch to Man United in July, with the 20-time English champions said to have paid an initial £47m for his services.

Onana, on the other hand, has had a rough start to his time at Old Trafford, surrendering 19 goals in 11 games while preserving only three clean sheets.

The goalkeeper has made a number of high-profile mistakes, prompting a slew of criticism, including from ex-Red Devils stars Peter Schmeichel and Roy Keane.

Keane recently stated that the Cameroonian has a "far way to come back" from his early-season form, and his performance will be scrutinised once more when Manchester United go to Sheffield United next weekend.

Onana signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, with a one-year extension option, and Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag has stated on numerous occasions this season that the goalkeeper has his complete support.

But, if the goalkeeper's dismal form continues, Ten Hag may be forced to make a difficult decision, with Altay Bayindir, who arrived from Fenerbahce over the summer, waiting in the wings.
During a wide-ranging interview, Marotta was asked about a possible return to San Siro for Onana and refused to rule out the former Ajax goalkeeper returning to Milan.

"In football, anything may happen, even if those who return do not always have favourable outcomes. It was a significant experience for both him and us "Marotta revealed this to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"That was also a very profitable deal for us to get him for free and then sell him for that much money."

Onana has conceded 12 goals in eight Premier League appearances this season, with Man United winning four and losing four of their first eight games.

The goalkeeper has also struggled in the Champions League, conceding seven goals in two appearances against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, with his performances in both games questioned.

Onana took over as Manchester United's number one goalkeeper after David de Gea's contract with the club expired at the end of June.
