Inter Milan Comeback Seals 4-3 Win Over Como To Boost Title Hopes

Inter stayed in control of the Serie A title race as Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Thuram each scored twice in a 4-3 comeback victory over Como. Cesc Fabregas' team had led 2-0 near half-time, yet Inter overturned the deficit and moved nine points ahead of Napoli, strengthening Scudetto ambitions with a ruthless attacking display.

The contest swung several times, with Como racing into a two-goal advantage before Inter struck four times in reply. Thuram netted either side of half-time, Dumfries added a decisive brace, and Lucas da Cunha converted a late penalty for Como, while Jacobo Ramon hit the bar in stoppage time during a tense finish.

Inter Milan comeback seals 4-3 win

Como started with confidence and got reward when Nico Paz broke clear behind Inter's backline. Yann Sommer reacted to the low curling effort but pushed it into the path of Alex Valle. The full-back finished first time, punishing Inter's slack defending and giving the Champions League hopefuls early momentum in this Serie A clash.

The hosts soon doubled that advantage after sustained pressure on Inter's goal. Jean Butez launched a long throw that escaped the defence and reached Paz, who controlled the bouncing ball and calmly slid it past Sommer. At that stage, Como appeared comfortable, with Inter struggling to create clear chances or impose control.

Inter's response began in first-half stoppage time, shifting the mood inside the stadium. Thuram moved in front of Ignace Van der Brempt to meet a cross and stabbed the ball past Butez. That strike, arriving just before the interval, halved the deficit and gave Inter a lifeline despite an underwhelming first period.

Four minutes after the restart, Thuram pulled Inter level, punishing hesitation in Como's defence. A mix-up at the back drew Butez far from the area, and Thuram collected the loose ball. From distance, the forward lifted a precise chip over the stranded goalkeeper, completing Inter's rapid turnaround in clinical fashion.

Sommer then produced an important intervention at the other end, turning away a sharp attempt from Ramon. That stop gained extra value minutes later when Inter went ahead for the first time. Hakan Calhanoglu swung in a free-kick from the flank, and Dumfries met it with a powerful header in the 58th minute.

Dumfries struck again in the 72nd minute as Inter tightened their grip on the match. A knockdown inside a crowded penalty area fell into space, and Dumfries reacted fastest. The Dutch wing-back forced the ball over the line from close range, giving Inter a two-goal cushion with just under twenty minutes left.

Como refused to fold and created late pressure that almost earned a point. Ange-Yoan Bonny clipped Paz on the edge of the box, and the referee awarded a penalty. Lucas da Cunha converted from the spot, reducing the deficit, before Ramon’s first-time effort struck the crossbar in stoppage time as Inter survived a final scare.

Inter vs Como Serie A data highlights title credentials

Paz remained a standout figure for Como despite the defeat, extending strong domestic form. Paz is now one of only two players with 10 or more non-penalty goals in Serie A this season, on 10, alongside Lautaro Martinez on 12. Those contributions underline why Como are in Champions League contention despite setbacks like this.

Inter's victory also showcased Thuram's consistent scoring impact across recent campaigns. Since the start of 2024-25, Thuram has recorded at least two goals in six Serie A matches, with five braces and one hat-trick, more than any other player. That record emphasises Thuram's importance to Inter's attack during this title challenge.

The underlying numbers reflected Como's frustration and Inter's ruthless edge in front of goal. Como generated 2.79 expected goals from 24 attempts, including eight on target, yet converted only three. Inter managed seven total shots, with five on target, scoring four times and massively exceeding their 0.88 expected goals to secure a crucial result.

The outcome leaves Inter in a strong position at the Serie A summit, nine points ahead of Napoli with momentum from a high-scoring comeback. Como demonstrated attacking threat and tactical organisation but lacked efficiency at key moments. Inter's finishing, combined with timely saves from Sommer, proved decisive in a match that underlined clear Scudetto credentials.
