Inter Milan Aims For Domestic Double Ahead Of Coppa Italia Semi Vs Como

Inter Milan are focused on securing a domestic double this season, with Piotr Zielinski emphasising the importance of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Como. The tie precedes a potential final, as Inter chase league dominance and a historic double, whilst Como push to upset the favourites and reach the final.

Inter are targeting a domestic double this season, with Piotr Zielinski insisting the squad remain fully focused before the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Como. Inter sit 10 points ahead of AC Milan in Serie A and meet their city rivals in the Derby della Madonnina this weekend, with the Scudetto race in view.

The Coppa Italia semi-final brings extra pressure, as Inter visit the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Tuesday, then host the return leg at San Siro in April. The winners will advance to the final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 13, where they will face either Atalanta or Lazio.

Inter Milan eyes domestic double

Zielinski accepted that Cristian Chivu’s team still felt the impact of their Champions League exit against Bodo/Glimt, yet the midfielder stressed the group remain ambitious for 2025-26. Zielinski told Sport Mediaset, "Winning the double would be fantastic, and we'll do anything to win these important trophies. It's all still in our hands."

While Inter chase both Serie A and Coppa Italia, Como arrive in strong form and sit fifth in Serie A. Cesc Fabregas’ side knocked out Napoli in the previous Coppa Italia round and have beaten Juventus, while also drawing against Atalanta and Milan in the league, which underlines their threat in knockout competition.

Zielinski highlighted Como’s organisation and technical level, warning that Inter cannot underestimate the opponents in either leg. The midfielder said, "They have a lot of quality, so well have to pay close attention. I was struck by their organisation. They play fantastic football with outstanding quality and have a great coach in Fabregas. Nico Paz is a star; he has great numbers, and we'll have to watch him."

Fabregas pointed to the broader importance of the tie for Como’s campaign and demanded intensity from the players and crowd. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Fabregas said, "An important moment in our season is coming. We have to treat this match with the importance it deserves. I hope our stadium can be like a little Bombonera! We will see."

Como’s coach also stressed the need for a balanced approach across the run-in, rather than focusing only on Inter. Fabregas added, "We must always think game by game because the season is long, we will see how many games we can win from here to the end. Inter have been the strongest team in Serie A for many years now, they have great players. We will try to play a great game, knowing their strengths and their small weaknesses, we will try to hurt them."

Recent key results for Fabregas’ Como highlight why Inter expect a demanding tie over two legs.

Competition Opponent Result
Coppa Italia Napoli Como win
Serie A Juventus Como win
Serie A Atalanta Draw
Serie A Milan Draw

Inter, however, approach the semi-final with confidence built on consistent domestic dominance in recent years. The Derby della Madonnina against Milan could move Inter even closer to another Scudetto, yet the players also view the Coppa Italia as a realistic chance to add extra silverware and reinforce their status in Italian football.

Both clubs therefore enter the first leg with clear targets. Inter search for a domestic double after Champions League disappointment, while Como chase a historic final. The semi-final looks set to test Inter’s depth and mentality, and it also offers Fabregas’ side a chance to extend an already impressive season.
