Simone Inzaghi expressed his frustration after Inter Milan failed to secure a win against Genoa, resulting in a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the Serie A season. The Nerazzurri were poised for victory at Luigi Ferraris, with Marcus Thuram's two goals overturning Alessandro Vogliacco's initial strike. However, Junior Messias equalised in stoppage time, capitalising on a rebound after Yann Sommer saved his penalty.
Inzaghi acknowledged that the trip to Genoa was challenging for his players, many of whom had participated in the European Championship and Copa America during the off-season. Despite this, he insisted that fatigue was no excuse for failing to secure the win. He emphasised that such performances would hinder their chances of defending their Serie A title.

"A team like ours, leading in the 84th minute, shouldn’t concede any more goals, especially in that way," Inzaghi told DAZN. "Football owes you nothing. Today, we had to give a bit more. Conceding two goals like that makes it difficult to win matches."
Inzaghi stressed the importance of better game management when leading. He praised Genoa but noted that the draw was unsatisfactory given Inter's performance and opportunities created during the match. "If you take the lead, you have to be better at managing it," he said.
The head coach also highlighted the difficulty of winning consecutive titles and expressed confidence in his team's maturity despite his disappointment. "Yes, winning is difficult, winning it again even more so. The boys know it; they are mature enough and that's why I'm disappointed," he added.
Inter Milan will look to bounce back in their next match against Lecce on Saturday. Fans are hopeful for a stronger performance as they continue their campaign to defend their Scudetto title.
