Inter Milan will start their Serie A title defence without Stefan de Vrij and Piotr Zielinski against Genoa on Saturday, according to Simone Inzaghi. Last season, Inter finished 19 points ahead of AC Milan and retained most of their squad, with Zielinski being a notable new addition.
Despite a short break after winning the Copa America with Argentina, Lautaro Martinez will play. Inzaghi mentioned, "Everyone is available except Zielinski, who will rest for a few more days, and De Vrij." He added that Zielinski would be ready for their first home game against Lecce.

Inter have strengthened their squad with six new players. However, Inzaghi expressed his desire for at least one more defensive addition before the transfer window closes due to Tajon Buchanan's long-term absence. "We know that the market will evolve until the end of the month and right now we feel covered," he said.
The coach highlighted the need for a valuable left-wing back to further solidify the team’s defence. This strategic approach aims to ensure Inter remains competitive throughout the season.
Inzaghi recently extended his contract with Inter until 2026 after leading the team to a comfortable league title win last season. Despite this success, he refrained from making predictions about the upcoming campaign. "I see a more level league," he noted, pointing out that top teams have reinforced their squads while mid-table teams have also made significant improvements.
The coach emphasised that all teams have been very organised with good additions and coaches, suggesting a competitive season ahead. This balanced view reflects his cautious optimism about maintaining Inter's dominance in Serie A.
Inzaghi also commented on Martinez's readiness: "It's up to me whether he starts the game or comes on, but he is motivated, as always, and wants to get going." This statement underscores Martinez's eagerness to contribute despite his recent international commitments.
Inter’s official Twitter account shared excitement for the upcoming match against Genoa with a post saying, "Breathe, listen, eyes on the pitch Inter are back! #ForzaInter #GenoaInter."
This enthusiasm from both the coach and fans sets a positive tone as Inter embarks on defending their title. The team's preparations and strategic additions aim to ensure they remain strong contenders in Serie A this season.
