Inter's Important Triumph Over Bayern Munich: Inzaghi Emphasises Need For Further Efforts

Inter secured a crucial Champions League win against Bayern Munich, but coach Simone Inzaghi insists more effort is needed for the second leg. The team's strong mentality was key to their success.

Inter Milan's thrilling 2-1 win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League was a testament to their strong mindset, according to Simone Inzaghi. Despite this victory at the Allianz Arena, Inzaghi emphasised that more effort is needed for the second leg at San Siro. Inter's late winner by Davide Frattesi came just after Bayern equalised through Thomas Muller, marking Bayern's first home loss in this competition since April 2021.

Inter's defensive resilience was evident as they conceded only three goals across 11 Champions League matches this season. Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the 38th minute after Harry Kane hit the post for Bayern. Despite having 58.4% possession and twice as many shots (20 to 10), Bayern struggled against Inter's solid defence.

Inzaghi Discusses Inter's Munich Victory

Inzaghi praised his team's depth and performance, stating, "We had great depth in our game and that makes us happy." He acknowledged Bayern's impressive record but stressed that Inter must replicate their success at San Siro. "We know it is only half-time in the tie," he added, highlighting the importance of maintaining focus for the return match.

The Nerazzurri demonstrated determination, courage, and aggression against a formidable Bayern side. Inzaghi noted their ability to match Bayern's intensity and highlighted their tactical approach: "We said we had to take possession away from Bayern." This strategy proved effective as Inter managed to disrupt Bayern's rhythm.

The upcoming second leg in Milan will determine who advances to face either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals. Inzaghi remains cautious yet optimistic about their chances. He stated, "Bayern are a very strong side, but we went toe-to-toe with them." The team aims to capitalise on their lead and secure a spot in the next round.

Reflecting on the match, Inzaghi credited his players for their belief and quality football: "We also deserve credit for believing in the victory until the final minute." Despite conceding a goal shortly before their winner, Inter maintained composure and secured an important advantage heading into the second leg.

This victory not only ended Bayern's 22-game unbeaten home streak but also showcased Inter's potential as serious contenders in this year's competition. With a narrow lead, they will look to leverage home advantage at San Siro next week.
